  • need a little help

Ok im not very smart when it comes to sound systems, so I need some help. I have an alpine head unit with a 400 watt alpine amp and 4 250 watt mids and all that is hooked up and works perfect. I also have some subs with an amp and I need help on how to hook the subs up.

    Thanks
    Casey

You will need a distribution block to split your main power wire from the battery into two wires. Here is a basic one.

They come in many many shapes, sizes, and colors. Just make sure the sizes are what you need. (ie. If you have 4g wire, the distribution block will accept 4g wire) They are sold at EVERY car audio shop. Big and small. Or online. Try knukonceptz.com Pretty obvious how it works. Wire gets clamped down on one end and has two clamps for output wires on the other end.

You will also need another pair of RCA cables. Here's a basic pair.

One end will plug into the rear of your Alpine headunit and the other end will plug into your amp.

The thin, usually blue color, remote wire going to your current amp can easily be split into two. One for each amp. Just splice the insulation back a little and thread your new wire through it, like so.

Thread it through. Wrap it around itself as tight as possible. Then wrap the connection in electrical tape. You might even think about throwing a couple zip ties around the tape so it's sure to never come undone.

No, don't get rid of the fuse. Put the block back near the amps; it'll make it alot easier on you cuz you won't have as much wire to run. Depending on the wattage of your amp, you could probably get away with 8AWG throughout the car, which is probably what your current power wire is. If it happens to be 4AWG, then that's even better :P, just make sure your block has the right size terminals for it.

No, your main fuse should be within 12 inches of the power source (mines under the hood). I put my distribution block in the trunk close to my amps.

Most importantly, do not increase the main fuse size under the hood to accommodate your new amp. You could have a fire on your hands.

                    Re: need a little help

thanks a lot guys you helped me out a ton. I might do it today depending if I get off work in time. The amp to the mids is an Alpine 400watt and the one for the subs is a POS 460watt. I know wussie subs, but I dont need a lot for what I listen to. Mainly rock, I have blown two of the Alpine mids and they arent cheap to replace; so I need something for the bass. Appreciate it a lot
