  • Looking for ideas on where to mount 2nd audio unit?

Installed an Alpine deck in my 2000 Camaro and it looks great. But I also have an Alpine Sound Field Processor that I would like to install which pretty much takes up the same space as another deck. Was wondering if someone had any ideas or better yet pics of where they have installed another din stereo. Thanks

I did it in my 96 Camaro down near the console... but my installation required lots of fiberglass... lol ...I'll post some pics tomorrow if I get a chance

Some of the guys over at ls1tech.com have double din headunits in their f-body. Shoudn't be any harder to do two single-din units stacked on top of each other. See if you can track down the double din trim they used.

Yeah I've already thought about that. Only thing is double din doesn't actually mean 2 single dins on top of each other. The measurements are definately different. Two single dins on top of each other are alot larger. I'd have to cut the stock center console trim piece and was trying to steer away from that. But I may have to. Thanks

Um actually yes it does. I've done it several times.

Maybe you are confused. But the factory opening in the f-bodys is not double-din. It is 1.5 din. So those folks on ls1tech.com had to cut their center dash/console area to install their double din units too.

Obviously not a straight up install, but if you're up for it, fiberglass isn't too hard... I bought a book on it and played around with it, and eventually started using it in my interior. Plus with fiberglass, you don't have to do it the way your car will allow, you can make your car the way you want it...

Looks more like a lot of bondo work actually.

Another option of where to install, would be inside the glove box... access to it wouldn't be easy from the driver's seat, but at least it'd be in there and it'd be pretty easy to do

Ummm yeah I thought thats what we were talking about the din size in a camaro? I guess I wasn't clear with what I was saying. I was talking about the din size in my Camaro and it's not double din so 2 single dins will not fot without some cutting.

Yeah I also thought of this but the Alpine display on my processor is just way too pretty to hide it in the glovebox.

Yea I understand that... I didn't buy much for my car when I bought it way back in high school b/c of that very reason: there just isn't much room... but then I came across some good deals on some Pyle car video stuff and said the hell with it and started cutting... I pretty much knew I was gonna keep the car for a very long time, though, so potentially destroying my interior wasn't that big of a deal for me since I never had to worry about resale value...

Another spot I was considering (any/all opinions would be appreciated on this) was the center heater vent?? Maybe cutting the actual vent tube back and block it off somehow and mount it there. Anyone have any input on this?? I'm thinking cut heater vent back, little sanding with dremel, plastic dummy piece with some strong epoxy to the vent making a good seal and I would think that would work....probably increase my front window defroster airflow a bit in the process. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.....I don't think this would be detremental to anything do you guys???? Thanks
