  • Problems with my deck

Hey guys ive had a sony xplode deck in my camaro for about 2 years now and its been working fine up until the beginning of this summer. Now when i drive it randomly shuts off and stays off for a long time but then sometimes it will turn back on for a few seconds and then shut off and i cant turn the deck back on.....i can eject a cd, but the deck itself wont turn on?

ik some of you guys are stereo gurus so if anyone has any advice that'd be really appreciated!

    Sony Xplode........ That's your problem.

But in all seriousness.... Mine did this when my BCM (body control module) was going bad, Do you have power windows, or manual windows?

When the BCM fails, it controls certain things in the car, like the radio power, power windows & locks, and it comes and goes.

My radio would shut off, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes a few hours, it all depended. I had manual windows so that was the only real symptom I had.

But im not saying thats it for sure, could be the radio just crapping out, theres no real fix to make the problem go away, buy a new deck, and don't buy a sony.

I have that same problem!!! Had a panasonic deck and it did that constanly, so i thought it was the deck, so i bought a nice jvc and it didnt do it for about a month now its starting to do it again. If the bcm is replaced it would fix the problem?

More than likely, it seems to be a pretty common problem.

Search for BCM and there will be more topics on it.

If you have power windows you will have the same issue with it not working also.

IDK. Some stereos do that and some just don't. I had one before and then I bought a Pioneer. Never had problems since then.

Stereo's just dont "shut off" randomly. Don't be foolish.

The source of power to the radio is the issue, If you don't think so, take this stereo out, put in someone elses car and see if it continues to do that.

I spoke out of experience. And there's more to troubleshooting than that.

well i have figured out that when the deck randomly shuts off and doesnt work, i still have power for the deck to flip down and eject a cd? are we sure this is the bcm or the deck? cause if the bcm was messed up wouldnt the deck not have ANY power whatsoever?

                        Re: Problems with my deck

Not neccesarily, the deck has two power sources, constant power, and switched power. The RED & YELLOW power wires on an aftermarket wire harness.

The switched power controls the on / off with the car ignition, and the constant power controls the memory, which will save your preset radio stations, runs the clock, and ejects cd's without needing to power on the car (most radio's have that option)

Instead of running your switched wire from the radio's stock harness, you could run a wire from the radio's harness to the fuse panel, and use a multi-meter to find a fuse that turns on and off with the ignition, and run it from there.

You could run both the power and switched wire off the fuse box (2 different locations if you wanted / needed to )

when the deck cuts out, do your windows work? If they dont then it's a sure sign that it's the bcm

90% chance it is the bcm and not the deck
