I want to get some snow tires this season. I'm tired of getting stuck in my driveway so I'm hoping some snow tires will help.

Anyone know any good ones for the stock wheels?

they won't help that much. you just need to get a beater.

      Re: Snow tires

I'm with Kristen on this. I tried the snow tires with a posi last winter and missed half the things I was supposed to be at, due to the fact that she just didn't move through the snow. I even got the tires that use a crushed walnut compound in the tread, to no avail. Also, with the new motor and trans, I figured last year was bad, but this year would be worse. So, this year, picked up a truck and have been making it as "user-friendly" as possible.

          Re: Snow tires

I have driven one in the winter for the last 14 years,a H/C TA with a 2800 stall.

A 95 3.4L peg leg that I bought as a winter car (harder to drive than the TA)

          The 2001 Firebird 3.8L W68/Y87 I have been driving the last 2yrs.

Goodyear Icetracs for me,they work reasonably well, deep snow(4"+++) is your enemy as a stock F car has 4" of ground clearance.

I have autoclub incase I get stuck, but I have not needed it (knock on wood)

I see 4x4's and AWD SUV's stuck or off road all the time and I get through.

If its snowing I try to keep the speed to 80kmph(50mph) on the Highway 100kmph limit(62mph)

If its dry I am the fastest thing on the road;)

            Re: Snow tires

I had to drive my 01 camaro in the snow for 3 winters when i was in high school, gotta love having an fbody as a daily driver. I usually have Firestone Firehawks on my American Racing Rebels but when winter comes, i use Bridgestone Blizzaks on my stock rims, they work great but i still always slide around here and there if the roads are really bad, rwd in the snow is a lot of fun. Id also recommend getting bags of sand/salt/kitty litter and putting it in the trunk, the more weight in the back for me seemed to help. You really just need to take your time and know how to drive rwd in the snow, and liek transamtom1 said, take it slow on the highway if the conditions are bad, ive seen lots of accidents happen from people just flying down the highway. and also, rwd fbody in the snow...have fun with it!

                Re: Snow tires

I drove the Camaro for three years through the winter snows. We never got it too bad, but I seemed to do just fine. I ran Bridgestone Potenza G009s 245/50/16 and really didn't have much trouble. Definitely a lot of fun, but there were times that I had to walk or get a ride, not because I got stuck, but because it was too deep to risk it (or I didn't want to shovel out my car) I think any more snow traction and I would be able to take that car just about anywhere around here without too much problem. I live in quite a hilly area, too.

                  Re: Snow tires

For those who have answered me thank you. I've been driving a camaro in these ohio winters for 7 years on the stock type tires. I know exactly what it's like and I can handle it just fine. I know what it's like to go 5-10mph just so I don't loose control. I just want some tires for a little extra help.

                    Re: Snow tires

I realize I didn't even answer the question, even though it was my intention when i started writing that response..got a little sidetracked. Anyway, i've heard lots of good things about the bridgestone blizzaks and the dunlop sp winter, or the altimax if you are looking for something studdable. I'm sure you know the best bet is to go with something more narrow, like a 225/50 or a 215/60 for the snow to maximize your grip. Unfortunetely I can't speak from experience on any tires in particular as I haven't used any on the maro.

Oh it's np schlotzky, i'm not mad or anything. I was just wondering about tires and not what I should have instead. And you did tell me what you knew so it's all good. We all know we really should have something else for the winter but I don't, and I don't want to have to deal with a 3rd car's insurance or upkeep. But I'm open to donations from those who still think I need more.

                          Re: Snow tires

Ah man, I still got my summer tires on and am at college right now, but I got a winter set on stockers...but for the life of me I can't remember what they are for sure. I am 90% that they are Yokohama Ice Guards. I deal with Wyoming winters at 7200 feet and they get me around amazingly well.
