  • Drums to disc problem

Ever since i swapped my drums from my 96 camaro the rear has not been holding as it should,i tested it my jacking up the car and putting it in first gear(T5)then stepping on the brakes,my foot was to the floor and the rear brakes grabbed and made the car bog down a bit but did not stall it,im thinking that when at idle in first gear the rear brakes should stall the car with ease,it's not like i have a CTS-V with 400 lb-ft at idle lol.the question is do i need something else in my system, something to do with pressure since the drums probably ran on less pressure and now the discs require more, and what about porportioning valves,do i need a different one, please help, i almost wrecked in the rain yesterday as the front brakes held but the rear didn't hold much.

Rear discs on the LT1 93-97 were no great h%ll.

What discs give you is repeatable stops with less chance of locking or fade under hard driving.

Drum brakes under aggressive driving heat up and will grab for a while then just fade.

For normal street driving rear drums are more than adaquate.

No proportioning valve but the sell them, I did rear drum to disc swap on my 96' , haven't had any problems, very hard stop on dry road it just stops like a cat on carpet. Maybe check your calipers to make sure they are working fine and greased up.

Sounds like you still have air in the system somewhere. Try bleeding the ABS unit and then the rear brakes. It is also posible that your master cylinder is going bad.
