  • Who has 275/40/17 on 8.5 rim???

Hey all, I'm looking at a set of C5 rims/tires and need input. The rims are all 17x8.5 and have 4 Cooper Zeon AS 275/40/17 on them (75% tread left). I hit up Baller for his input (thanks again Baller) and am now taking the question to everyone else.

How will this combo be on a spring/summer/fall daily driver? The roads where I live are poorly maintained, will this setup be able to give a fairly comfortable ride? I don't want a bone jarring commute to take the fun factor away.

Also, my suspension is stock height FYI.

    Thanks!

The roads here are either concrete or blacktop. The blacktop roads aren't too bad and I am usually able to avoid pot holes and such. The concrete roads are fine if they are newer but many are older and uneven with an inch or so difference between slabs. With my current setup 245/50/16, I can feel every uneven transition but it's not terrible. I just need input from those who have 275/40/17 and how it has affected their daily driver, either positively or negative.

It will get worse. My car "hunts". It's like the torque steer on my SS - you better know what to expect before it happens. You will get used to it, and how to drive with it.

As Robert Mentioned, you will get used to whatever you get and how to drive with it. I personally didn't notice a huge decline in ride quality going from 245/50/16 all around to 275/40/17 and 275/35/18. The back is noticeably less smooth, but the front doesn't seem to be all that much worse. Try to avoid the larger imperfections in the road and I think you will be just fine.

Thanks guys, I knew I could count on you.

So Fondle, which setup do you prefer?

Also, are you guys able to break your tires loose (i.e. drifting burnouts and such:)) or does this bigger contact patch put the kabosh on such lunacy?

ohhhh yes, they'll break loose and drift like a champ if you know how to control it. i don't DD the 'maro anymore now that I bought an SUV, so anytime i drive her it's usually taking her out drifting in the mountains. with my beefed up suspension and nitto's, i can get those tires screaming around turns and taking hairpins at ridiculous speed with ease. :D

I would say the 40 series would be more noticable than a 50 series, also would depend on shocks /springs setup. I'm looking at increasing my 40's to a larger height, roads seem to be harsh in some areas and my Dads & Moms 2nd house their fixing up to retire in out of the valley is on dirt road and my older brothers house is dirt road, makes it harder to get to.
