  • Rear end with disc swap proportioning valve?

I have been looking into doing a rear end with disc swap for my 93 Camaro. The rear I am looking at is from a 97 Z28. One thing that was bothering me was the info I was reading about the proportioning valve. I think about 40% of people are saying it needs to be switched and 60% say it dont. So what is the real answer?
I called my local GM part guy and asked him. He said there was only one part number in the system for a 93 Camaro proportioning valve. He also said it was no longer available, but there were no other options on any models.
So is he right or what.

I will be getting as slightly taller gear in the new rear, so I am assuming the speedo and shift points will change. Someone told me there is a part you can put in the auto trans that will fix this issue, has anyone heard of this or done it? I see alot of people mention reprogramming the computer, is that the best way to do it? Who is the best place to send in a 93 computer to have reflashed.

Re: Rear end with disc swap proportioning valve?

I swapped my rear out on my 94 camaro but I also did an ABS delete and installed a proportioning valve, the valve is fully opened. If I would have known I would not had installed the valve. My original rear had 3.23's in it and I swapped to 3.42's. I never did anything to reprogram the ecm or adjust the speed sensor. Mph might be a little off but not noticeable enough for me to fix.
If you want to play it safe install the valve or you can try it first without it and always add it later if needed. If your going from 3.23's to 3.42's I wouldn't bother with a reprogram but again you can always change it later if needed.
