Found a set of SS brake lines on ebay for a decent price...what do you guys think of these?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...id=p2759.l1259

Also, my front pads need to be changed withing the next 1000-2000km's, The car brakes fine as it is, and the rotors look fine and in good condition. Do I need to machine/turn the rotors, or can I just put on new brake pads?

The car doesnt shake or anything like that when I brake, it brakes perfectly fine, I actually didnt even know that my pads were low until someone pointed it out to me...I dont have a place I can machine the brakes the same day they are taken off, and I dont want to wait like 3-4 days to run this stuff back and forth if I dont have to.

If there is one place I wouldn't skimp, it'd be the brakes. I can't say anything about the quality of those parts, they may be great, but the last thing you want is to be driving down the road and in an emergency stop, your line bursts are you're screwed. That's why I stuck to name brand lifetime warranty SS lines when i did mine.

And it's recommended that you machine your rotors every time you change pads. You could buy new rotors if you don't want the down time, they aren't too terribly expensive. $22 each last I looked vs. $8-10 for machining (each).

where did you get your SS lines? and where did you find the rotors for 22$?

Ive been looking around and the best I could find was around 100$ for brake rotors, and it looks like pads are gunna run another 150$ (which sounds flippin expensive?!?) and I have had a hard time trying to find SS lines...

Re: Brake questions and SS brake lines

My SS lines are Goodridge brand. I had heard good things about them, but the main thing was the lifetime warranty. I can't remember where I got them, but it was one of the Camaro sites like lmperformance (not them though I just checked). If I find them I'll let you know.

Dang dude, pads run like 65 a set here for premium, and rotors like I said (last time I bought rotors for my old LT1 brakes) they were 22 each. If I still had them I'd send them to you for shipping cost but I'm almost positive I threw them out. A lot of autoparts stores will do rotor turning for pretty cheap, and places like les schwab and other places that do brakes usually will turn your rotors for you for pretty cheap.

Re: Brake questions and SS brake lines

see from what I googled people were saying that you need to turn the rotors only when there are heat marks, or pits, or scorch marks, or that sort of thing...if the rotor is clean, and the car stopped fine just before you changed the pads, (didnt make any noises or shudder when you stop) then you should just be able to do a pad "slap" on them?

I dunno, I dont want to cheap out on brakes either, but at the same time if work isn't necessary... As far as the rotors go, if I just swap the pads, and the car feels like it is stuttering or off when stopping, can I not just pop the pads back off, then get the rotors turned or get new ones? Or would I have damaged the pads so I would need new pads now as well?

Cause I was thinking, change the pads, then if I have a problem, go back and do the rotors...cause they still look brand new to me. I did the brakes like 1.5 years ago (took it to the mechanic) but I got slotted rotors, so they are just eatting through the pads, especially at the race track...

the brakes in most cars are designed to be two separate systems, usually left and right sides, so if one line bursts you still have half of your brakes.

its the exact reason why if you take a look in your master cylinder resivour, it is split in two, so all of the fluid doesnt leak out

I always thought that of the two lines coming out of the master cylinder...one was a return line...but one is for the rear, and one is for the front right?

Re: Brake questions and SS brake lines

I don't see any reason why new rotors or having the old ones machined would be needed unless there was wear into the rotor from having gone completely through the pad. If you change your pads often enough to not allow metal-on-metal contact and your rotors are not extremely worn I would just reuse them.

At least thats what I have done and had zero issues. Along with most other people I know.

Re: Brake questions and SS brake lines

Yeah, that's why one reservoir is bigger than the other. One goes to the front (bigger), the other to the back. This is a much safer system than L/R. In any case, if a line bursts in an emergency, while half your brakes is better than none, it can still be the difference between wrecking and not wrecking; even life or death.

Anyway, I don't see any logical reason why decent rotors would need to be turned or replaced with new pads, it's just what I've always been told. Most likely so people don't overgeneralize and replace overly or unevenly worn rotors (scratch marks and whatnot). Plus it can't hurt. But if your rotors look good and it's not convenient to get them machined, changing just the pads is probably not going to hurt anything.
