  • k member question

can someone please tell me the differences between the k members of the 94-97 3.4/3.8/lt1 and the 98+ 3.8/ls1 ones?

which ones are the same, and which are different?

would a 98 v6 k member be able to mount an lt1 on it, or is it completely different?

    thanks

Different. It's just the mounts that are the issue, but it's cheap to swap a k-member, so no one really makes mounts for a v6 to LSx conversion.

do you mean the way the engine mounts, and not the engine mount itself, correct?

Im trying to put a sbc in my car, and i know the lt1 mounts will work with the engine, but i wasnt sure if my 3.8 k member would be able to work, i guess i should have stated that in the first post

I got a feeling it won't...atleast without modification....now what kinda modification is the question. You may want to try and contact BMR or PA racing and ask them exactly what the difference is as they make aftermarket. If you know what is needed differently, you may figure out how to mod it to get it to work...

thanks, i am 100% positive a lt1 k member will work fine, which is the main reason why i wanted to know the differences.. it might save me some money.

the only problem with the lt1 k member is the lt1 has three holes on the enging for mounting while the sbc only has two.

im still unsure whether i want to go with the bmr k member made for this swap, or try it with the lt1 and take the chance of the engine ripping the mounts apart.

if everything is on the same angle...I dont see why you might not be able to run a steel plate ontop of the existing mount area, and run new holes so that you can properly mount the engine....

I only know what the 3.8 K looks like though, so Im probably not much help ...

well, after doing a ton of reading/research, the 3.4l k member will require a custom engine mount, so i would assume the 3.8 would require the same

so right now i guess i have to think whether i should try to make a custom mount or just buy the BMR piece, which is not that expensive
