  • firebird steering wheel ?

i have a 98 parts car that has the monsoon radio and the steering wheel with the controls. the parts car radio doesnt work whatsoever. my 00 bird has the delco radio but looks identical minus it saying monsoon on the deck. so now to the question, will that steering wheel work in my car? id love to be able to use those controls!

Not sure if it will work but I have a stock monsoon sterio out of my 02 bird that will work. You will have to get it unlocked due to the anti theft lock but that should be easy for any dealer. If your interested in it let me know I'm sure we can work something out since you got what I need

98-02 should be the same so it should be plug and play

I'm going to assume that your '00 bird doesn't have the radio controls in the wheel... I always thought birds had those controls standard. Guess not. I've only looked into this for Camaros, which didn't come with those controls until late '99. For those without the radio controls in the steering wheel, a new clockspring is needed. If you're car doesn't have the correct clockspring harness, you'll need to find one that includes the radio control adapters so it'll be plug and play.

            Here's a write-up with a little more detail: How-to: install steering wheel w/radio controls

It'd probably be easier to just swap over the whole steering column, if possible. Then just replace the BCM and key cylinder from those on your car. Swapping over just the clockspring would be a huge pita.

in my opinion its easier to swap the clock spring considering you still have to tear down the top of the column to swap the lock and still have to fish the lock wires down the channel ..i just did this exact swap..it was hard but worth it...i also dont think the monsoon with plug and play as a replacement for a standard delco. i replaced mine with a aftermarket that was capable of using swc. adding the swi module and programming it was cake and the result is a much better system than the monsoon when your done...i recommend the clarion cz-500 ..tons of features for about 125.00 on e-bay ...swi module about another 50.00
