Hey everyone, you all out and enjoying Spring? Not much action around here since I last posted...
Quick alignment question, my car drove straight as an arrow with my old rims/tires 235/55/16 but now that I swapped for 275/40/17 I notice the car slightly pulls to the right when I let go of the wheel. Will the extra tire width require an alignment?
The wider tires will follow the road a little more than thinner ones. Otherwise check for a slipped belt or something in one of the tires if they are used. Go find a perfectly flat / straight road and try again to make sure.

Thanks!
exact same wheel/tire combo i upgraded to and have no problems out of it due to the increased size. this one may be a little more simple than you think --- start by checking your tire pressure. sounds like your front right tire needs a bit more air, as the car will pull slightly to the side with lower tire psi.
You can align a car with wheels and tires off the car, so wheels and tires don't affect alignment at all... however, It would probably be a good idea to get your car aligned, spending a little now could save you alot later...
And just because the new rims/tires don't affect your alignment, if the car was out of alignment, and now you switch to tires with more grip you might feel it more than you did before... $70 for an alignment is worth it imo when tires cost $100+ a piece

I would suspect it's in the tire. Swap them left to right and see if the pull goes away or changes direction. Otherwise, as stated above, the wider tread will tend to follow the road a bit more and/or overstate existing alignment issues.

could be a tire pulling or also the alignment like mentioned above if your old tires were worn and slipping across the pavement before. First switch the fronts left to right or move them to the back. If still pulling then align
Thanks for the replies...I checked the tire pressure all the way around and adjusted them to 35psi, took a test drive and it appears to have helped as it now drives reasonably straight. I now believe that the comments regarding the tires following the road were accurate as many of the roads around here are asphalt and in need of repair. Also, my car is/was not pulling, it slowly "vears" to the right within 5-10 seconds of letting go of the steering wheel, many people would probably not even notice. I'll try some different roads this weekend and see what the results are. Thanks!
good work man, keep testing the roads and get a feel for the new tires and grip. i run around 32-35psi in my 275/40 nittos and they perform great. also, as the seasons are changing and the temps are dipping from hot during the day to still cold at night, your pressure is gonna suffer a bit, keep an eye out and you should be fine.
like the fellas here said, if you're still feeling some pull, an alignment is worth every dime.
