  • front sway bar removal

i feel stupid for asking this question, but last time i tried removing my front sway bar, i couldnt.

i took all of the bolts out on the bushings, but after i had them out the sway bar just stayed there and wouldnt come out.

is there some sort of trick to it or something? it seems like it should be fairly easy..

yes, i already had them out, but the sway bar wouldnt budge

i was able to twist it up and down, but thats it.

i need to get it off so i can weld it back up, it is completely cracked in half on the passenger side where the endlink goes through

You should have the bushings and endlinks and thats it, that holds it in.

there are 4 bolts total holding on the bushings 2 per side and then you will need to drop the end links when i took my 30mm off (which is for sale) it hit me in the face! lol

Tell me about it , I forgot my 35mm ST sway bar weighed 34LBS , I swaped in the 321LE thats 10 LBS and when I did the last bushing I almost killed myself , it hit me on my chest instead of my head which would of put me into the hospital since I take blood thinners . My head would of just got a blood clot in it from the impact. I then remembered I used jacks to install it.LOL Its sad that I have gotten so weak being not able to work out for the last 4 years.

i will see if i get to it today, it is suppose to be pretty hot outside, but i am almost positive i took all of the bolts out and after some major tugging i gave up and put everything back together because i didnt want to mess with it that day

your car ever been wrecked? there is no reason for it to be in a bind if you take the bolts out...

                  Re: front sway bar removal

you got the end links, which are near the tires, that should all just slide out and come apart. Next you have the bushings, which are more towards the center of the bar. Take those off as well, 4 things in total need to come off.

All it is is a bar, just follow along it and see where its getting stuck. Sounds like u forgot to take the bushings out, which are just kinda like C clamps that hold it up against the car

I have a 1le hollow 32mm if yours is broken ;) but yeah it sounds like you may have just missed a bolt, I know I did when first removing mine.

You should get a new/used replacement bar if its broke.

After you undo all the bolts just pry the clamshells off with a screwdriver if they are stuck.

I feel like on the driver side there was a stud with two nuts, the first of which held something else on and the second which held the bushing bracket in place. It's been a while since I had it out but I remember something like that.

Yes, I think most people run these with their stock rear swaybar, a larger rear swaybar causes poor handling i think? anyways I had mine with the stocker in the rear, pm me and I can give you my number we can work something out.

Understeer is safer than oversteer, and you will have a fair amount of understeer with that sway bar combo on otherwise stock suspension as your stock rear bar is 15mm. IIRC black and gold has a pre 97 car? If so, that's a 17mm bar, which is a popular option for the 32mm front bar.

The 32mm bar will be a nice improvement in the feel of the car and confidence in corners, the body roll will be quite noticeably reduced from your 28mm front bar.
