I have read around and it seems like most people say 275/40/17's on a 9 inch rim should fit my 98 camaro but i recently bought some and the rear tires are rubbing the top of the wheel well. i have had no problems with the fronts and the passenger side rear tire seems to be much worse than the drivers side rear. any suggestions on why this might be happening or what i could do to fix it?

Re: 275/40/17 tires
Did your car come with 16" rims? if so slp makes a rear bump stop spacer for the 17" tires to kep them from bottoming out think the v8 come with them from factory but not sure. I forgot the price but was not very much and really easy to put in. sure a quick search at slp web site would find them.
also i learned that 275 in front kick rocks down the side of the car i was getting a bunch of rock chips on my doors so i switched to 245 if front and kept the 275 in rear
Good luck hope this helps1999 Camaro V6 A4
Navy Blue metallic
Intake+Exhaust+4.10+?=?

Is your car lowered? If not your springs and shocks are probably bad and need replaced. How much weight is in the rear? my guess is you need new springs and shocks. How many miles do you have on the rear suspension?08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: 275/40/17 tires
Every 4th gen V6 and most V8s came with 16" rims.
You say your wheels are rubbing the outer sidewall on the inside of the rear quarterpanel? It sounds to me like the offset on your wheels is incorrect for the size for the car. If this is the case, you'll probably want to get your fenders rolled. Another common issue is the bump stops as mentioned, but that will cause rubbing on the inner sidewall of the tire, not the outer as it sounds like you're mentioning.

Most shops can do it for you.
What wheels are you running?

ok here is the link from slp and states "jounce bumper spacers are necessary whenever installing 17" wheels and tires on any 1993-2002 Camaro or Firebird. They are designed to raise the jounce bumper to prevent tire contact with the inner wheel well. "
but could also be bad shocks and or springs as well. (did not think of that befor) I had the 17's on with out these and had no problem I did end up getting them tho just incase. cost is cheap and now even on sale.1999 Camaro V6 A4
Navy Blue metallic
Intake+Exhaust+4.10+?=?

Re: 275/40/17 tires
Im runnin 295/45ZR18. 28'' tall and 11.5" wide. My tires are around an inch wider and 2 inches taller. When put into motion I hit a lot more shiit lol
I didnt have to roll my fender. I did cut off my bump stops tho haha. I did a "hose mod" (1/2" lift)to my coils and have heavy duty bilstiens, double adjustable PHB (Pan Hard Bar) to center the rear.
Im guessing if you arent on a stock wheel Your offset is incorrect. But i would reccomend Shocks, PHB and the hose on your coils and possible adjustable control arms

Re: 275/40/17 tires
Nice looking Camaro chevy350, OP ,sounds like you need new srings and shocks and you'll be good. Before the 315/35/17 rears were instsllad I had 275/40/17's back there and they never came close to touching anything, so it looks like your suspension needs a overhaulin.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: 275/40/17 tires
Its atually the way the car sits in the rear, with stock shocks the Pass. side is lower but when I added my QA-1 shocks and 1LE springs it leveled out the car so it sits even. But with the QA-1's the mounting bolt has to be drilled bigger so maybe that had something to do with it. You could also run a thicker rubber mount and reduce the other side to just the hose mod, that should even them out esp. if you don't want to spend $400 on rear adj. shocks like I did. LOL Good luck, make sure you get the stifferr springs from 98-02 cars for the rears there 114lbs compard to 94lbs on the 93-97 Camaros, or find 1LE rear springs like I did their 130-170 progressive springs and are really nice handling at stock height.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
