  • weird handling issue Help!

So since I just put on the new C5 rims I just got (275's our back on an 18" rim and 245's up front on a 17" rim.)

I've noticed I am fighting the car, but mostly only on the highways. The car seems to be extremely jumpy in the rear especially around bumps/joints in corners on highway bridges. The car's been feeling very unstable...I actually thought I was going to slide across the highway the other day in the rain doing 110km/h (I swear the rear slid a bit)

    couple things I have noticed:

    1) my panhard bar is bent (but it has been bent for 2-3 years now atleast)
    2) My slicks do the exact same thing when I put them on and drive the car
    3) the car shakes alot more, I almost feel as if the somethings going to give out.
    4) I was extremely low on power steering fluid...but I have since topped that up, I have no idea where any of this fluid is going as I have seen no puddles underneath the car. Power steering itself feels fine.
    5) my car seems to make a banging/creaking noise when getting on the brakes now. I cant see anything broken, but I do know my blasted Y pipe bolts are loose again (so this could be the culprit of the noise)

Help me out guys...I've just ordered a phb that should be here by tuesday, so it will go in some time friday next probably.

Honestly, the car does not feel the safest right now. I can't pinpoint what might be the issue. Im wondering about the phb being the culprit due to the bigger tires, but it NEVER did this with the 245's back there. I feel very unstable in corners on the highway, car feels like its just going to loose it anytime now.

    1) If your PHB is bent your rear axle is not centered properly, the wider tires will make this worse as they grab every road irregularity.

    2) What kind of tires are on these rims? Not all tires are created equal, Goodyears suck.
    I have Yokohama's and I love them.

    3) Are they properly balanced? You also have a lot less sidewall creating more NVH.

    4) You got me.The only way you can lose it is a leak, and a very small amount to heat evap.

    5) Check your swaybar endlinks and your rear bump stops.

Double nut your Y studs and tack weld them if you can.

    Good luck with it.

    Off to work I go:)

thats what I was thinking, and thats why I think it might be the phb...especially because when I have my slicks on driving up to the track, buddie tell me that it looks like my rear end is wobbling. Hatch shakes like crazy etc.

I got good year eagle F1 Gs-1 tires on the rear, ya they suck...they spin almost as easily as my 245 wide bald hankooks.

can't see any endlings broken, and I cant see why bumpstops should make any noises under light breaking conditions. It sounds almost as if something is shifting when the nose points forward to slow down. I have a feeling it is the Y pipe, but it also sounds much different then the last time these bolts came loose.

They have been double nutted, no luck. I dont want to tack weld em incase I need to take them off again for additional work under there.

It must be a slow leak with the power steering, because I have checked back on the fluid and it is fine still. I just thought I would mention it because it almost feels as if the steering is "loose". The thought of a leak through a steering boot crosses my mind and makes me wonder if something may be coming apart in there...

          Noise,Vibration, Harshness.

Just tack the bolts to the nuts with one small bead,if you want to take them off again for some reason a file or a hammer and chisel will knock off the weld.

its the lower profile of the tire it sounds like to me because since your tires and rims handle good now you will notice the problems in the other suspention much more now and i havent heard good things about f1's.

How did you bend you panhard rod? My BMR chromoloy adj. has been on mine for 10 years no problems. Sounds like a balance issuue or suspension bushing going out.

no idea...phr bushing is completely roasted. PHR was bent I think when I bought the car maybe...I never noticed it until I actually started doing work, so maybe I did it, but I honestly cant think of how...and the previous owner babied it, (older guy, no kids, he sold it cause he just had a kid) I cant even see him bending it, and he's original owner.

If its a stock one I can believe it , mine was bent when it was taken off and the BMR was installed, it was bowed, but I did have some accidents so that could have been the problem.

it is stock...and he did have 2 collisions, but they were minor...dead on in the front and dead on at the back (dead on but both opposite corners of the car)
