  • Gabriel Shocks?

I was on the autozone website yesterday looking for some rear shocks for my 96 Camaro. They have a shock called Gabriel Max Control. I've never heard of these before. Anyone familiar with them?

    Thanks.

Worthless. These are the same quality as a set of blown stock DeCarbon's. Don't buy shocks from Autozone, O'Reilly's, Advance, etc.

If your just looking for a cheap replacement Tony I'll save ya money and sell ya my set of decarbons off the other camaro...60K on them supposedly lol... They're already out and ready to go and mated up with springs...

Never heard of Gabriels...I would stick with the Blisteins you were talking about or go with the KYB shocks.

Heck if I ever get around to finding myself a set of QA1's I'll sell you the KYB AGX's that are on my car....but Ive spent too much money on the car this year...this sickness needs to stop.

There's about 70K miles on the Decarbons on the car. I wanted to find something a little better than stock though. They're advertised as monotube shocks, so I though why not for $60. Seems people either love them or hate them from what I've read.

Gabriel Shocks, especially the Max Controls are very good shocks for stock replacement. However if you want better then stock handling I would go with Bilsteins or another performance brand. FYI the Bilsteins are also sold at Autozone.

QA-1's FTW , I love them, after driving this last week total of 4 hours and going through mountain roads where the curves were nice. My settings I think are F/R on #8 out of 12 being the firmest. The only thing i will change is getting the QA-1 rear coilovers this next time I buy rear shocks.

                      Re: Gabriel Shocks?

I just ordered KYB AGX's from strano, along with some strano performance springs. The owner told me specifically to stay away from Gabriel shock mounts, and shocks. He's a well educated guy I hear when it comes to suspension so I'll take his word, along with Pace's. Stay away from gabriel.

strano springs are awesome, give these cars a great stance and handle awesome.

Strano went back to KYBs? for a while I thought he was only offering his bilstein HDs.

I just found out that Gabriels are made by Monroe, about 40 minutes from my house.

                              Re: Gabriel Shocks?

I know that most people here don't like the gabriels. But I'm not one to follow advice ( they told me not to get married and I didn't listen then either :) ). I installed the gabriels on the back last week and have been putting them to the test. Now all I have to compare are the stock Decarbons with 60K miles on them, but the gabriels are way better. The *** end of the car is much better behaved. There's a bump out of the parking lot at work that always throws the back of the car sideways with the decarbons. Not anymore. For $120 a pair if they last 50K, that's 4 or 5 years for the amount of driving I do, I think its a good deal. This car is afterall my hobby. I'm sure I'll go through a lot of parts in the years to come.
By the way, changing the rear shocks was the most painless thing I've done on this car. Took about an hour. Nice to have pneumatic tools on hand in my buddy's garage.
