  • Panhard rod install

Just picked up a double adjustable phr for the car. Been reading how to install it and it looks like most people are saying raise the car up and unbolt the bar, then put the tires on the floor (or ramps) and tighten the new bar down.

My question though is cause mine is double adjustable, How should I adjust the bar (what length should I be looking at for a stock height car) or how should I gauge my adjustments with the bar? I.e., how do I know that I have setup the car correctly and have it nicely centered?

I would take off your old bar and adjust your new bar to that size before installing.

If your car is at stock car height then the panhard bar shouldn't need adjusted. If your car was lowered, then it would need adjusted to center the rearend.

I have bigger tires and I know one side needed to be banged out further then the other. (275/40R18)

My stock panhard bar is bent, so I dont think measureing the old bar will do much for me...thats really the only reason I picked up a new one...

        Hey Mike,
I have a stock panhard bar in my shed I could measure if you still need to know the length. The Spohn bar I bought came at stock length from the factory. Maybe yours did too.

I didnt buy it brand new, so I dont know for sure.

Ya if you could measure it for me that would be great.

Also, since the bar is double adjustable, how should I actually adjust it? If I turn the nut on the bottom end as opposed to the top end what is the difference?

(This is the aluminum hotpart phr with rod bearings btw)

It shouldn't make any difference which end you adjust. I would do whichever was easiest to get to when its installed on your car. I'll measure the bar and let you know.

The rod measures 43" center to center. Once you get it on the car, you can tweak it to get the axle perfectly centered.

The double adjustable is so you can loosen the jam nuts and adjust the bar while leaving it on the car.

Measure your wheels from the sidewall to the outer fender on each side to make sure they are equal on both sides.

PHB controls side to side adjustment right? Just hang a bob on each quarter panel and measure to the center of your wheel. Keep adjusting til both sides have equal length

You can have mine if you want. It came from a 2000 Z28. I don't need it.

It came of the rear end that I swapped into my camaro. I installed a spohn panhard bar at the same time, so I have no use for the old bar.
