  • That clicking noise..

When I apply the brakes I can hear a clicking noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Once I take off from a stop I can still hear the clicking but after a few seconds of getting up to speed the noise slowly dissipates until you can no longer hear it. I originally thought it was the caliper hitting the lead wheel weights as they were mounted near the spokes on the inside of the rims. By looking at them on front you could tell the the weights were worn down. I had the tire remove them and place new ones on the outside of the inner rim. I still keep hearing the same noise which means that it wasn't the wheel weights..

I pulled the wheels and checked the brakes. The rotors are in perfect shape and the pads have about 60-70% life left in them. With the wheel mounted I can spin it with my hand and hear no clicking and see nothing hitting or rubbing. The car drives straight and doesn't have any front end problems, at least that I'm aware of.

I asked about this before, but it is driving crazy now that I use the car everyday. Please help me out..

take the rotors off and knock/grind the rust off of them

Are you saying that might be the cause of the problem?

holy ****...I have just developed this problem to and its driving me up the wall trying to figure it out...I cant see anything broken down there either...all I know is my front end started making squeaking sounds as well when I crank the wheel with the car under suspension load...it doesnt do this with the car in the air though, same with the clicking sound...Im starting to wonder if maybe it is steering related, as both issues came about at the same time...(plus my pump is whining ever so loudly)

Does your makes sounds when you turn as well? knocking or squeaking? (mine knocks on turns sometimes as well)

No other noise or problems with my car, just the clicking. My problem is not steering related but is coming from the brakes or front end somewhere. It only happens when braking.. I can't figure it out either?

I have no idea...I've begun to think about it possibly being that strut mount piece, or something up front on the shock being broken where I cannot see it...

Would the weight planted on the front of the vehicle during braking cause something with the shock to click?

thats what I have been thinking...it makes sense because the nose of the car will tilt forward thus shifting more weight up there...not sure if maybe something broke, or its loose though...

Well.. you gave me a few ideas. I'm due to rotate the tires anyway so this weekend I'll dig around some more and see what I can figure out. If I find something I'll be sure to let ya know.

yes, it is common for rust to build up and rub on the brake pads.

i rarely drive my camaro anymore, and it sounds like a monster when i drive it now due to the rust buildup

ya please...I got a feeling that mine might be up top though, probably where I can't see it lol...I do remember when I took off my STB I forgot to put the nuts back on those 4 studs for a little while...so it is quite possible that black shock mount is going bad (plus I have heard of them going bad on these cars) so thats what I am leaning towards... I mean, I keep my suspension well lubed up, usually lube everything every other oil change or so...

Only other thing I can maybe think of for you to check is maybe the exhaust piping, I know mine clicked a bit when the Ypipe bolts were loose, but I have tightened mine up with no luck this time...

That would be more like a metal clang.
