Never lived in a place where they were needed but now I do, so has anyone ran snow chains on their Camaro?

And is there anything I need to look for/at when buying some?

i hope your location is your old one.. you dont need snow chains for the very minimal amount of snow OK gets IMO

if you are worried, get a good pair of snow tires

Lol. I live in Maine where we get 200+ feet of snow anually with 7 months of winter. I don't even have snow tires on my 98 firebird that is my winter beater.

Keep the gas tank full, put 100 lbs of of sand or cat litter in the trunk, bring a shovel, and you're good to go. And let the fun begin :naughty:

A good pair of snow tires will be better then snow chains. Driving in snow is not all that bad.

ice is way worse than snow, and "snow chains" are actually made for ice traction.

anyways, i just looked up the climate of carson city, an it gets very minimal snow, like said, a few hundred lbs of sand in the back and a good set of snow tires will do you well

                Re: Snow Chains

I looked at the owners manual and it says if your vehicle is equipped with 235/55/16,245/50/16 or 275/40/17 you should NOT use tire chains as they WILL damage your vehicle.

Unless your driving on logging roads snow tires are more than enough, make sure you buy 4.

                  Re: Snow Chains

OK, looking into snow tires, I run 245/50/16 (stock were 235/55/16) can't find any in either size but I do find some 235/60/16 looks like it will fit ok with minimal change to speedo

                  any suggestions?

you can look into 225/60/16, compared to what you run now, the mph difference will only be ~2mph (faster)

it is a very common tire size, so should be fairly cheap.

I have run with all seasons in the front, and snow tires in the back with no problems, if you dont want to buy 4.

i would also suggest picking up a cheap set of steels, or 4th gen rims to mount the tires on, its a PITA getting them changed every season
