C5's ARE ON!!!

Hey all, just got my car back from America's Discount tire and man it looks SWEEEET i got 265/35/18s and the handling is much improved even though i have worn out suspension lol. looks AWESOME except for my nasty reddish brown brakes lol....after my shocks and springs i will definately do somthing to clean up the brakes. anyway love the look of chrome c5s and will be breakin my back to keep em clean. i got the rims off ebay from Moore911 and he has a great rep got me my rims within like 4 days and no lies or hassle. hard to contact through email but otherwise great guy sells all sorts of size combos to like 18-17 and z06 and c5 17 all around an 18 all around. really good prices too. watch out tho 265-35-18 and anything near it are expensive....like 140 bucks each if your LUCKY so i might have gone with 17 inch wheels but ive already made up my mind and im lovin it

Yeah I bought the same wheels in 17" from the same guy on Ebay. They are really a great deal and look fantastic. I'm sure they will look real nice on your Firebird. Just don't do what I did and hop a curb two days after putting them on. Bent em all up and popped two tires. It was terrible but they're all fixed now.

What kind of tires did you put on em? I know tires get real expensive for 18's, which was one reason I didn't get them, the other reason being weight.

yeah them big wheels can get pricey...

thats why I stuck with a 275/40/17 since its stock size, that size seems to be a little cheaper...

I picked up kuhmo 712s, for $107 a piece, $472 shipped to my door from tirerack.

only 140? my firehawks were 260 a PIECE then again i only had to buy 2 of em

i dont get how these tires improved your handling tho, perhaps u did a suspension upgrade i could see, but maybe as far as gripping from punch it, it could but overall handling i dont see how

better side walls will give better respon and less of that "float" felling

ya but as far as cornering and things like that is what i consider handling and the tires arent gonna make to much of a difference there, thats where the suspension comes into play and yea with the right tire it helps as far as grip but over all handling i dont see tire doing it.....the only difference i noticed when i went through different tires over the years was the amount of grip and less wheel spin

yes tires help ALOT, ok look with taller sidewalls the tire actually shifts and bends/looses its form giving you more potential inertia in one direction, wider tires = more surface area and the 35 sidewall makes sure that there is absolutely no horizontal shifting of the rubber meaning that the car doesnt have that potential momentum. think of a lead weight on the end of a rubber band and one on tought string. if you swing the one on the rubber band you get a delayed response as it takes a while for the band to accelerate in the direction you just moved, with the string it has no give therefor it moves INSTANTLY with your hand. the less rubber you have between your car and the ground, the less give and the more response. hope that helps, there are a couple sentances on in in the modifications section [img]smile.gif[/img] trust us though, handling is improved, (love darting in and out of lanes!!!)
