What brand are they? Most of the time spacers are good, but if you get cheap ones they may not be able to withstand the force put on them. It puts more stress on the bearings. Especially if you race. I recommend getting a high quality light weight one if you get them.

      it's a bad idea.

I think the spacers are most often used to move the tire away from a strut it would otherwise rub on. Spacers are "safer" if they are hubcentric (centers are machined to closely fit the hub and have a raised center to center the wheel). I don't think you will find this kind at your local autoparts store.

You can buy different wheels with a different backspacing (old corvette wheels?) to get the wheels a little more to the outside (to widen the track of the car).

        that would be cool
widen the ride = le ahu la ula ("wider is better")

toms tire world was mounting a tire for me and they broke my tire mount balancer

whatever the f that is lol

although, when i think about it, if you put the tires way out, wont there be more rear end hp/tq loss?

The Mr. Gasket and other off the shelf spacers are listed as 4.5/4.75 bolt pattern making them prone to shift if you use acorn lug nuts vice shoulder nuts like me. This is bad. They will loosen. I have HD double stick type holding my spacers in place while Baer Brakes sends me custom fit billet aluminum spacers ($38). The smallest they can machine is 1/4", which is more than I need to get the rims off my front calipers (I am running +offset AR Venturas). Also, OEM overlength lugs were required. They aren't much longer but they thread all the way to the tip. ~ rhodey

I am not a fan of spacers.. but I assume the ones you got aren't too bad because you likely bought the $4.99 ones that are pasically a fancy "washer" not a real wheel spacer.

be carefull with spacers. using spacers causes an increase in shearing force on the lug bolts, as well as less thread used holding the nuts on, causing more stress there as well. I have heard nothing more than 1/4" spacer with stock lug bolts.

If you get spacers larger than a 1/4 make sure that you get new Longer studs that are the correct thread size( the threaded rod that you bolt the wheels on to; i think its like 12mm by like 1.5 or something, idk). I like the wheels poking out a little bit.

They are safe as long as you get the hubcentric ones, new studs and dont go wako with the size you'll be fine.
