  • hollow knock from front suspension

ok, so i had a 'hollow' clunking noise from my front, right side suspension, and i thought it was the unconnected sway bar knocking, so today, i installed the new endlinks..

its still making the noise when i go over bumps!!! tomorrow, i'm gonna have to take the wheel off again, see if everything is tight down there, seems good, but it cant hurt to check, i HOPE its something to do with the sway bar, sway bar's are easy

if u guys got any idea what could be the problemm i'd appreciate it

Could be ball joints. Mine used to do that back in the day and I replaced the top ones and it fixed it. That doesn't mean that it could be a bottom one also.

One way to see if the ball joints are good or not (or need to be replaced) is to put the front end on jackstands and put one hand on the top and bottom of one of the front wheels. Try to move the wheel in and out (meaning the top towards the inside and the bottom towards the outside and vice versa) and make sure that there isn't too much play in the system. If they move quite a bit, they need to be replaced.

I would agree that ball joints would be my first suspect. Also any number of front bushing could be worn allowing enough play to cause a knocking sound when you hit a bump pothole etc...

        thanks a lot guys..

kal tire, a local tire store has a free suspension check, so i'll see what they say, and seeing how a friend works there, i'll prolly get him to do it (i hear its a pain to get them on)

prolly nothing... they checked everything out this morning, all joints/bushings are fine, shock/spring are fine, i'm gonna take it apart and try to tighten up the top bolt on the shock... the guy said it'd prolly be the top of the strut assembly is a bit loose...
