I was origionaly going to just get rear tires but I was looking at the front ones the other day and realized that they are really cracked inbetween the tread so I am going for 4, I believe that I want to go for the 245/50/R16's, I parked next to a totaly sweet Trans Am (non Ws6) and was checking out the tires on it and they were directional are all 245/50 r16's that way? I may be going with dunlops cuz my dad has a conection and everything we have had them on they have held up really good,, I am mostly going for a wider lower look, and I am thinking I will get better handling with tires like this, I have a few questions though,
#1, what will a 245/55/R16 cost over the stock 235/50/r16
#2, will a Z rated tire cost more then a normal one, I dont need high speed cuz I dont go that fast.
#3, what do you inflate tires like this to?
#4, ( the stuped one) what do all the numbers on the tires mean? I cant rember anything other then 16 means 16" and Z means high speed.

any thing elts I should know please add, car just has 16,000 miles and the tires are shot, they have 38psi so I dont know if they were over inflated or something, when I had them around 30 they felt so sloppy on the road.

the 245 means that the tire is 245 mm wide and the 50 is the ratio of width to height(the smaller the number, the more low profile the tire)I wouldn't recomend the tire's that come on the trans am, i got them and they don't grip very good, my old cooper cobra GTH's were good tires.

Hey.. don't forget the Tirerack link when shopping for tires. When you use that banner, V6.com gets a few bucks.... and every little bit helps us keep this thing going (sorry shamless plug) ;)

When you use the banner AND buy or just when you use the banner?

not much different. these are pretty common sizes for tires.

generally, yes. do you need z-rated tires? hardly. your speed limiter keeps you from going that fast (because your tires cant handle it unless they are z-rated).

it usually tells you on the sidewall somewhere and if you check the drivers side door sticker there is some advice from gm about correct tire pressure but most tires are 35 psi max (this is when the tire is cold not after miles of highway driving) check tire pressue when you fill up the tank. www.tirerack.com probably has a page to explain this. but its width(mm)/sidewall height ratio(percent mm)Rdiameter(inches).
