  • Id this part please

Noticed one day that my axle was shifted to the left and sat too far back. further inspection said it was swapped on from an older year. began an ls1 rear-end swap and before getting everything back on realized despite a straight pan hard bar and the proper lenght LCAs, the axle would still be shifted. I think its due to the bar above the axle that runs across one side to the other. What the heck is it called and should it have a massive bend in it on the passengers side? gettin ready to just get an adjustable panhard bar and forget it.

No I am not talking about the panhard/locating/track bar. its the other one. the one the panhard bar bolts up to.

    Thanks

i know what you're talking about, and i dont remember seeing a bent one.

i do recall it being a common problem with the rear end not being center (especially on the ls1's)

I think it's just called the upper panhard bar.

I call it weight reduction , I have been running wwithout the upper for about 3-4 years , no problems. I know they make a Panhardrod with a upper version but I have found no use for one on mine but I do run a 21mm rear sway though.

i called it a doohickey at the local pull-a-part. apparently they cost about 10 bucks. I wasn't sure if it was necessary either because it was such a flimsy piece of junk. got one, but will post pics of the old bent one later. Hopefully i can get the new one in place. seems like the prev owner smacked a curb and bent a few parts of suspension up there.

No worries now though because its all new and there is now an LS1 rear end on it with a thicker than stock sway bar. the only thing that worries me now is that the driveshaft seems to be pulled out of the tranny a lil further. prolly just the angle of the axle. will check soon.
