  • Jeep question

I know, I know, it's not an Fbody, but I am hoping you guys might have some thoughts.

My wife has a 2000 Cherokee sport. When I hook up our pop-up camper, and load the thing up for campiing, it sags something aweful. The leafs actually bend the wrong way, and it occasionaly bounces off the bump stops.

I installed a set of Rancho RS9000 adjustable shocks, and on the stiffest setting, it helps some.

What do you think, a full set of higher grade springs, or maybe just an add-a-leaf? I saw some weird leaf thing that was suppose to prevent this, but I idd not recognize the company (I forget the name now). It was like a spring on a ball that moved based on the load.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

I helped a guy put some helper springs on a work truck with full steel tool boxes. They helped the sagging problem.

Well I am a Jeep guy first and recently picked up my Camaro as a daily driver while I completed the Jeep project.

The best thing for you to do would be to get new springs, or at least look around for a set from someone who installed a lift recently.

Is the Cherokee stock height? If your interested in doing a lift on it let me know I have a ton of hook-ups on discout pricing.

The Cherokee is stock height. Stock everything except for the shocks. I don't want to lift it since it is my wife's daily driver.

I loath the idea of doing springs again. I did them in my old YJ - took days and like 20 sawzall blades.

I will probably farm out the job and get a new set of high perf springs. Any suggestioins on brands?

          Thanks for the replies.

Give Quadratec a call at 1-800-745-6037
They should be able to get you some OEM replacements for about $60 each.

Wish you were closer I could do the work for you in no time.

Are OEMs really going to help? You think my springs are worn? I was thinking the springs it came with were just wussy - to make the cherokee ride better.

I could tow 3000lbs with my old Wrangler with zero sag whatsoever.

do the work in no time? What technique would you use? I assume not sawzall - that took me a while.

I use to get Quadratec catalogs all of the time - I ordered tons of crap for my Jeep.

I am thinking that your springs are just worn, if not then you might have to go with a small lift in the back to get stronger springs. Rubicon Express would be a great option, their springs are great. I recently installed a set of 4.5" lift springs on a 90's XJ and they were beefy.

You are right it might take a little work to get the springs out, but it is not that bad really. Sawzall and a BFH usually work out pretty good. Or you could always bust out a torch.

If you want you can contact my friend Nick at kolak@aol.com tell him Dirk sent you, he has GREAT prices on all kinds of stuff.

I am not sure what a leaf pack is.

I was thinking of getting a set of heavy duty springs ( I will check out 4 wheel parts and quadratec). A place around here will do the install for $300. Given how long it took me on my YJ, I think $300 is worth it to have it done there.

                      Thanks for the input.
