  • Tire Pressure Oddness

What PSI does everyone with stock'sh wheels and tires run? Personally, I usually run 35, but my 95 (car in question) hasn't been mine very long.

I just had new meats put on Wednesday, (Cooper Cobras) and, well something odd is happening.

They were at 35 when I got them, then I checked them yesterday, they were all at exactly 30 PSI. So, after some scratching of the head, and uttering "WTF?", I put all of them back to 35, except the driver's front which would not go past 30. I thought either the gas stations inflator nozzle had suddenly went bad or the inner valve on the tire had bent. So, I decided to run them like that today until I got my compressor fixed.

They were wobbly, until I had driven a bit, and then calmed down. Odd.

I just checked them again, and they are all back to 30 PSI.

    Anyone seen this before?

      Yes, exactly!

If I put one/them above 30, and then drive around a little bit, they will vibrate, then just go smooth. Afterwards when I check, the pressure has changed to 30 pounds on each tire, but they will drop no further.

(difference varies 1/2 PSI from tire to tire max)

The max pressure on the tires is 44, so there is noway they are overpressurising and blowing out the stem or rim.

The tires are actually adjusting themselves, it's creepy.

Make sure you are using a good gauge. If it were just 1 tire, I would say it could be something else, but for all 4 to suddenly lose 5 lbs is suspicious.

I have now used 4 different guages/inflators. All but one (gas stations) are of excellent quality and reliable.

I'm stumped, so I'll either try and put them at 32, then see if it happens again. If it does, and I think it will, I'll just leave them at 30.

Tire gods will be done, or whatever.

Why is 30#'s a good pressure? Just curious, as it's not what I'm used to running. The ride seems better to me though. Maybe I'll change the pressure on my 99 as well.

Maybe a friend is playing a prank on you. Being a college student that would be my first assumption, since it makes no sense otherwise.

                LOL

That would be funny, but I graduated college a few years ago, and my cars are garaged nightly.

Plus, my friends and I are far too grouchy and anal about our cars, to ever touch anothers.

Nope, all the times I checked the tires were cold, (or at least "room" temperature).

                    Good idea though.

you got all four tires done at the same place right? isnt it possible that the valve cores on all four are bad? like a bad shippment of them came to this dealer. id say replace the cores yourself and then see whats up. theyre only like 2$ for a package of them and the tool is like 4$ so.
help me build the ultimate sleeper soon ill have a lot more mods than i can list and watch out for the spikes. 02 firebird
