• 275/40R17s won't fit?!?!?

I want to get Borbet Type-T wheels in the very near future. They are 17x9.5. I said to the guy at Town Fair Tire that I want 275/40R17 sized tires. My original rims and rubber were the "Flower Power" 16x7.5, 215/60R16 tires. The guy checked the plus sizing chart and said that I should get 245 somethings (After he said 245, I stoped listening). He said 275s may be tight, and they may rub when I turned. I said that 275/40R17 is the common size tire that Z28s and Formula cars get, and many have them. He said, "Well, I've been doing this for 15 years, and I think I know a thing or two."

So who's right, me or him?

BTW, I have no clue on what brand tire I want, suggestions would be cool

I guess gm should stop making the ss and ws6 and call this guy up because he knows all, because they come with 275 40 17's in all four corners

IF the rim has the correct backspacing and rim width they will fit just fine. This guy is full of

I've delt with this type before. He recommended I go with 215/60's because my P245/50s were causing my "rain problems"...

Don't listen to the fool, go somewhere else if he makes you uncomfortable.

Buy the P275/40s, buy the wheels, and have them mounted and balanced at a reputable place. Best of luck to you

I forgot to add - we can run P285's safely we have so much wheel width... I've seen 315s front/rear before with a little hammering on the inside fenders :D

I just put 275/35-18 on my 18x9.5 wheels. They questioned the fit, but it hasn't rubbed and I've had them over a month.

Mine have been good for 2 years with the SS wheels and now with the Y2K wheels. Only rubbing I get is when going from lock to lock on the steering. All that does is rub a tiny little bite of the inside fender plastic. Does NOT damage any tire what so ever.

I wish I could pull out to that guy in my car and show them how well they fit, but Conneticut is a ways. After I showed them to him I would kick him square in the balls for being stupid. :D
