I got new 245/50ZR-16's. What's the proper tire inflation recommended? Discount tire put them 36 psi. What I know for 235's or less is 30 psi.

I'm no rocket surgeon, but doesn't it say on the side of the tire...

I usually put mine at 35 PSI. So they were close. Side of the tire will have max of like 40-44 PSI.

Sorry my ignorance in this, what is "PSI on the side of the tire"?

PSI is how much air is in the tire and shows the max it can go to, I believe it stands for Pounds per square inch, as in how much air inside the tire.

Ah! OK. I just checked it. The Max PSI is 51. So, Is 36 PSI still a good inflation?

yes the number on the side of the tire is the max psi that tire can handle. the number on the inside of the drivers door is the proper psi for your car. i run my 245 wide tires at 40psi to help the side wall a bit cause i enjoy taking the corners faster than i really need to.

                Cute, 245 is wide :poke:.

                I run 275, and do about 35psi.

The factory pressure for our cars is 30 psi, but I usually run it at 32 psi. So when they warm up it gets up to around 35 psi.

Thats the opposite of what you want to be doing there guy, at 40 psi the tires aren't going to making good contact with the road. It will be worse when they warm up, and your also going to replacing your tires much sooner. All your doing is bulging out the center of your tread.:slap: I guarantee if you lower the psi your car will grip better.

well thats what im trying to do since the previous owner let the tires stay at too low of a psi. plus im more concerned with tire roll than contact patch. kumo put a really good tire together with the ASX. even at 40psi if i try to launch i can only chirp them. the only other time is tight turning in sealed or extremely worn parking lots. other that that i have more than plenty of grip right now.
