  • Bump stops

Got my tires changed yesterday and while on the rack I noticed my rear bump stops are rotted away.

    In looking for replacements,

I found the right ones on GMpartsdirect for around $30 each
    GM PART # 10164173

Or Energy Suspension ones that are about $20 for a pair but are actually designed for a 79 Jeep CJ5 (even Strano sells these)
    PART # 9.9137R / 9/9137B

Anyone have experience with the energy suspension ones? Do they mate up properly?

I'd also like to know. Mine have been rotted out for awhile.

Hell of a lot cheaper than ebay.

These may require some slight modification to fit.

I just went to a bone yard and found some off a 4th gen that were in near perfect condition. I think they charged me like 3 bucks.

i have the energy suspension bump stops..they do fit properly and the bolt holes line up BUT....there is a piece like a metal tab that holds the stock one in place that you would either have to cut them out or bend them out of the way...i bent mine out of the way to install the energy ones and everything is fine....its really no big deal..takes less that 10 mins

Bump stops what are they, LOL J/K I cut out my bump stops so I could fit my 325/35/17 tires. Not worried about hitting with 1LE rear springs with QA-1's.

                Re: Bump stops

I'm running Hotchkis and KYG AGX on 6 I think and without bump stops, on big dips at speed when my left bump stop rotted away, it made a terrible clunking sound. Maybe since those tires are so huge, you're just hitting the tires instead, Steve.

Bump stops are an important part of the suspension travel. They add a sort of exponential progressiveness to the extreme limits of the suspension travel. If you talk to the suspension gurus, they'll usually tell you to buy the OEM ones as they have more give than poly replacements and act more like a spring than "bottoming out" like the poly does which can lead to a sudden loss of traction in extreme handling situations.

                  Re: Bump stops

I run my QA-1's on 8 and with the weight reduction, stiffer springs their hardly any travel plus I cut out all the metal so the only thing to hit would be the fender against the tire , but its so stiff theres no travel if any in the rear.
