  • largest/smallest width of tires

I have these rims on my camaro:

What is the widest/skinniest tire I can fit on these rims? I currently have 235's on there and am looking to buy some used tires so I can sell the car. I found some 205's, are they too skinny?

225 is the skinniest tires I'd put on an 8" wide rim, and 255 the widest. You might get away with 215, but 205 is too skinny.

One of the factory sizes is 215/60 but you could also go 225, 235, 245 (most common), and 255. If you were to go with 225 or 235 go with a 55 series. If 245 and 255 go with a 50 series. You can technically get a 205/60 on the rim but its stretching it. I have a 205/60 on my spare rim, but I've never used it.

Yes, but that was only on the steel wheels which were 7 inches wide. I wouldn't put a 215 tire on an 8" rim personally.

I figured it would be a little too skinny. That's okay, I just found some mini cooper rims/tires that are 225/50/16 for only $260!

Steel wheels were 7.5", and the 215/60r16 came on the alloys too. Our Firebird had them as the factory size as did my friend's Z28. It was in the options. His Z28 has a 110 mph speedo and was limited to 108, all because of it coming with 215/60r16s. Also my snow tires are 215s and are fine.

You're right, 7.5", that's what I meant. That's a screwy option combo for a Z28. 245/50/16 was the standard size for Z28. That must have been a state regulation of some sort, because as per the owners manual, 215/60/16 was standard for V6, alloy wheels automatically netted 235/55/16, and Z28's all got 245/50/16.

My car came originally with 16 X 8.5" steel wheels. Size was stamped right on the wheel.
They were wrapped with Good Year Eagle GA 215-60/16. (Got 104k out of those tires.)
I'm running Michelin 225-60ZR16 now. 225-60s keep the ride comfort and are a
tad meatier than the 215s. They fill that fender well gap a bit more, too.

Yea, I've ever seen two like it.
