    Re: Brake Questions

If you have ever changed drum brakes on an older car you can change the small shoes on the drum E brakes. It is easy.

      Re: Brake Questions

The parking brake lever is self-adjusting. FSM calls for applying and releasing it three times to set the adjustment.

That said, there is also an adjustment for the p-brake shoes. The FSM-prescribed method requires a Kent-Moore J-tool which measures the parking brake drum inside the rear brake disc then applies that measurement to the parking brake shoes. The adjustment is made to the actuator which is at the bottom of the backing plate.

Lacking the j-tool---based on my reading of the FSM---here's my WAG on adjusting: With the p-brake released, with three lug nuts holding the brake disc to the axle and the brake disc for the opposite side removed, you'd want to have just a slight drag on the brake disc as you turn it.

Once you put the brakes back together, apply/release the p-brake three times then test it to see if it holds.
