I am going to replace my shocks on my car. got 93k on the car, original shocks, just about due for one reason or another...anyway, went to a shop and the guy gave me a quote higher than I anticipated but said if i bought my own parts he'd do it for 120, the whole car. anyway, he tried saying I had struts in the front and I told him I had shocks on all 4s...before I buy and waste money on the wrong part

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/KYB-KG9310/

This KYB shock will work for my front suspension right?

and on a side note, do/should I replace my springs will I'm at it?

You could throw on some lowering springs, I think I will be getting some
KYB shocks and not sure on spring yet

I'd talk to Sam Strano at http://www.stranoparts.com/. I've heard he's very knowledgeable about f-body suspension and it's probably a better deal than Summit.

Those KYB Gas Adjusts are good for OEM replacements. I would not recommend using them with lowering springs. They are not valved properly to handle higher rate aftermarket springs. For lowering springs rated at 1" or less, you should look into KYB AGX shocks or Bilsteins. Anything more than that and you're looking at more expensive shocks like Konis, etc.

Wrong. 4th gens do not have struts. They have shocks on all four corners.

KYB ADJ. shocks would be good with stock or lowering springs same with Blisteins , just depends on what you want.

                  Re: opinions?

120 is a good deal, seeing how the front shocks on these cars can be a HUGE hassle sometimes.

Like said above, those shocks are good for stock ride height.

Stock shocks BLOW, my camaros got 61k miles on it and im pretty sure the shocks are starting to crap out, same with my firebird, right around 70k they started getting crappy.

The morons at this place said oh no you have struts in the front, I said no it's shocks all the way around...then he goes to tell me, "Oh i would know, this is my job." I said to him, I would know about my car better than you do.

but Yea i got 93k on mine, tires are wearing uneven, car bounces alot, handles poorly.
I don't think i'm going to lower the car, I may do that heater hose mod during the summer to lower the rear but the front already has problems with speed bumps, my driveway, curbs, etc.

Ask him to point out exactly where the strut tubes are and watch as he struggles to find any. Then point out the two A arms and explain it's a double wishbone front, not Mcpherson strut.

Thats pretty sad they can't tell shock from struts, must be a old school guy who thinks he knows everything.

                          Re: opinions?

Believe it or not, most parts store catalogs list the front shock on Fbodies as a STRUT. The goober behind the parts counter wouldn't know any better.

well he physically didn't see my car. i just walked to the counter and asked for a quote. possibly why he just read what his computer said..maybe they don't get many f-bodies there..funny thing was he turned to his other employee and asked if they were shocks or struts and he says, it's a funny looking strut.

I would take it to a shop that knows the difference so the price is lower to do.
