• Rotors Are Warping Again, Which Rotors/Pads Do You Suggest??

Dam rotors started warping around 12k. I've turned them once around 55k and now it's 70k and it's starting to get a little annoying.

I was thinking of getting some KVR blank rotors. Anyone has these?? Are they WAY more warp-resistant?? Who sells them for low $$$.

Any other(is that one word??) rotor recommendation out there that don't cost hella $$$???

Thx,
Ed

I was thinking of that.....hmmm, how are the pads life holding up? People keep saying how those slots keep slicing the pads and wear them out faster and create more dust.....

www.fasttoys.net sells the KVR blanks reasonably.

If you're rotors are warping so badly, I wonder about both your braking style and wheel torque.

How often to you check your lug nut torque? Do you run them at 100ftlbs and even them up with a torque wrench on occasion?

Not to criticise your braking style, since that might also NOT be the cause, but it is best to lightly pulse the brakes under normal use instead of holding the brake pedal down with firm pressure until you stop. Also its a good idea after a hard stop to not leave the brake depressed - but to instead put the car in neutral if possible and pull the E-brake if you need roll control... this will allow the brakes to cool evenly.

If you do both of these and STILL get warped rotors, I wish you the best of luck. On both my 2000 and my 2002 I have yet to encounter warped rotors (only warped tires).

I was reading on ls1.com that Sam Strano is selling Brembo blanks (OEM size, thickness, etc, only made BY BREMBO for our cars) for a reasonable price... like $65/front rotor.

Another good option is the lifetime warranted autozone rotors :D . I assume you're looking for OEM size replacements?

Slotted rotors and stock pads, I don't have enough miles to give you an honest answer.
Probably only 1-2 months w/ this set up

This is under hard breaking - to keep the wheels from locking.

What I am talking about is varying your stopping pressure instead of just holding the brake pedal down until you stop. Just moderately change your brake pressure a little while you stop and you'll save your rotors' lives.

Good point - those rotors are GUARANTEED to not warp.

I've had the same warping problem, but I know it's my fault for heavy braking w/ my heavy a$$ in the drivers seat. baer eradispeed rotors have warp resistant warranty on them(but not crack resistant warranty). brake pads, either ceramic pads, Hawk pads, or EBC kevlar pads. the ceramic doesn't mkake a lot of heat, neither does the kevlar. the Hawks and the EBC both produce a lot less brake dust. But EBC just started making pads for the camaro and firebird, the other 2 have been around a while. it's up to you. Also, if the car weighs less, it'll require less brake force to stop it, meaning less heat and possible warping of rotors.

In all my years as a mechanic, I found that the most common cause of rotor warp was the idiot at the tire shop with his air wrentch. Proper sequenced torquing of the lug nuts is the best way to prevent warping, even IF you have a heavy foot.

Do you have a part# and price? Or better yet a link?? I don't like their website, not very clear....

Oh, also, can I use it with stock pads or will I need a different pad??

No sir, I have a Snap On click-type torque wrench and YES it is set exactly at 100lbs. BTW, the rotors warped before I even touched the wheels for rotation.
