  • Do I need new shocks?

Saturday night I was going out with some friends, had 4 people in the camaro. We left our apartment complex and I notice the rear tires are rubbing bad. So we turn around and get my wife's car. Anyways, I have 315/35's in the rear and the only time they rub is when I take sharp turns.

I wouldn't think with just 2 people in the back it would have been rubbing, I am guessing I need new shocks. What would you recommend? It's annoying not being able to drive around with people because of that!

    Shock test:

stand on the rear bumper and jump up and down like 10 tens, really get the car bouncing, and then jump off.

If the car bounces less than 1.5 times the shocks are bad. If the car bounces more than 2.5 times, the shocks are bad. Otherwise they are fine. The exact numbers vary by person, but those are what I use.

It's called, get this, "the bounce test". :D

In other words, the shocks are bad?

Probably. Try the test anyway. Is your car lowered?

What kind of shocks should I get? Something not too expensive though.

My car isn't lowered and not wanting it lowered.

Depends on what you are going for. I am not an expert on brands, so maybe someone else can chime in.

If you just want a basic shock, I am sure any of the major brands will be fine.

For performance, go with Bilstein's. I tend to go high end with shocks.

Stock shocks suck period - even brand new. Get a set of Bilstein HDs if you need a simple replacement... if you need more than that I can help... but for 90% of the people the Bilstein HDs are the best and most logical choice.

                I think I saw a set (4) of Bilstein HD's for like $360. I think that's what I'm going to go with.
