  • Getting New Tires

So I have been running my bald as my fathers head, Goodyear Eagles (235 55 16) since I got my Camaro many years ago... and have recently been enjoying the adrenaline rushing experience of hydroplaning just about every time it rains... :omg:

Anyways, I recently found some New BF Goodrich 235 55 16 tires, and just wanted to see if anyone had some reviews on them. I have had such trouble int he past year finding new tires of this size (hence waiting so long). I also was wondering whether I should just mount a 245 50 16, or a 255 50 16 instead of the original size. Looking for opinions ASAP.

The BFG's wont do much better as far as the hydroplaning. BFG and Michelin generally cure their tires longer than other manufacturers making the rubber a harder compound. As far as the size though, in my opinion the 245/50R16 look the best on stock wheels.

I have the same question. I am still running factory tires (20k miles on car/tires) and plan to replace them too long. so responses doubly appreciated!

I would recommend getting 245/50R16 with a softer tread, it will make an amazing difference in traction. The stock tires suck.

well if any opinions count im loving my kumho asx tires. there 245/50r16 and have both good and wet traction and there relatively cheap. i can only spin them while there cold but after driving for 20 to 30 minutes the only hope is a chirp dumping the clutch at 2000 rpm. rain they do pretty well. there the best tire in the rain that i have tested. although tire rack said they don't have that great of grip in the wet. also $108 a tire is really not bad for a tire of that size.

I bought my car with goodyear eagle 245/50/16 and have since switched to Kumho Ecsta AST 245/50/16 AND I LOVE THEM!!!! the ride is so much better, the grip is better. Kumho AST are the cheaper version of the ASX

ASX are rated 97W while AST are 97H

            I got a full set of 4 AST's for $350

or the hankook rs-3 or dunlop star spec. all are good tires until you hit standing water. thats their only down fall.

haha yeah.. was kinda looking for DD/ performance tires that can still take the long drive.

ill probably be jumping on some G-Forces though.

I don't know if you can find them in a 16 tire your size, but I love my Nitto NT 555's. They cost me over $800, but after 2 months and ~3000 miles so far there is no noticeable wear, the grip is amazing, they look good, they're not louder than my exhaust, they're comfortable on long drives, and handle pretty decent in the rain. Cost a lot, but so far they seem to be worth it.

i have some friends who run those tires every day. one has had his star specs for three years now and drag races once a month and another friend runs the rs-3 and autocrosses two to three times a month with a minimum of 6 runs at each event and they will last him 6 months before he heat cycles them. both handel and ive never heard any road noise when riding with them. they are a good streetable tire.
