    Re: Getting New Tires

I hate my g-force sports for straightline traction. I shred them, even with 2.73s and from a 35 roll my ls1 rips them apart. I say from a dig, a v6 with 3.42s or up and posi is gonna do the same. If anything g force kdw2. Its amazing what a good tire will do from a dig.

i picked up 2 nitto 555Rs 275/40/17 (drag radials) used with less then 500miles on them for 200 bucks. look around on CL and ebay you can find good deals on slightly used tires.

Would I be able to use hoosier rain tires as DD tires?

nitto 555 extremes have been amazingly sticky for me.

        2002 SOM Z28 Camaro - 12.9 @ 104 mph
        1996 3800 Camaro - 13.43 @ 100.77 mph

I daily drive with my nitto nt555's in the summer and I couldn't be happier. They don't do too well from a stop when it's raining but I've never come close to losing any traction during turns on wet pavement. I'm careful when it's wet out anyways. They don't work with any amount of snow though. Had to back the car out of the garage last winter and it was a pain in the *** to get it back in when there was like an 1/8th inch of snow on the driveway.

Anyways, I recently found some New BF Goodrich 235 55 16 tires, and just wanted to see if anyone had some reviews on them. I have had such trouble int he past year finding new tires of this size (hence waiting so long). I also was wondering whether I should just mount a 245 50 16, or a 255 50 16 instead of the original size. Looking for opinions ASAP.
I ran BF Goodrich Traction T/As that were 235/55/16 and I never once had a problem with them in any weather conditions. They did great on dry roads, in rain, even in blizzards.

one of my best autox events i ran on traction t/a tires. but i was running a audi quattro with a locked center diff at the event as well. they are a decent tire i would say good for dding but not so great for preformance driving. really really soft sidewall. had to run max negative camber on the car to prevent roll.

idk if they make these anymore but I have sumitomo HTRs, stock size and they work great in all weather. Had the goodyear eagles before those and they are the worst tires in the rain or snow. if you live in the bottom of a court like I do where snow plows don't come til the afternoon, the sumitomos are good, some days it still was a stretch making it up the street all uphill.

From one of the truck tire classes I attended. They use a variety of different compounds in their diff tires so there is exceptions. Alot of these tires I remove from service due to excessive weather cracking though. You can tell they use way more releasing agent than other manufacturers to get them off the molds. And they are the only tires that you cannot repair the bead when retreading.

I used to swear by Goodyears, but after the horrid stock tires I had on my Bird, and the even worse stock tires that came on my wife's van, and the marginal replacements we put on my wife's van, I'm steering away from them.

I have Mirada GTX's on my bird in the 245 size and I they are great. They have about 60K on them and they look like new, and have great traction. They look good, too. Supposedly they are made by Yokohama.
