  • Flat spot on front tires

Long story short I was headed back from RI the other night and encountered a deer on the road in the pitch black coming around a bend...slammed the brakes and skidded down the highway...looks like I just roasted the front driverside tire...it has a nice flat spot on it where I demolished most of the tread on the contact patch...not entirely bald though.

my question...is it safe to still drive on these tires? what's the worst that can happen?

you don't exactly notice it unless you are going slow, then it sounds like you have a flat tire...tire doesn't appear to have any bulges though.

I've already driven an additional 350 miles home after the incident, but I just want to make sure...don't really want to replace the tires atm until next summer...winter tires will be going on sometime in november/december probably...

I ran two tires with flat spots from when a douche friend pulled the e-brake on the interstate, ran 'em for a good 3 months no problems... It's just annoying.

I only wish my e-brake actually locked the tires. Damn thing is useless!

Shouldn't be a problem, just annoying.

Your ABS not engage good enough?

ABS is uninstalled from the car and replaced with a proportioning valve. To be honest I dont think I would have stopped as fast with ABS...I was doing about 85-88mph and went down to about 20mph in a stupidly short distance...just the front driverside tire locked up. I've added more rear bias to the braking which I think really helped, and I'd like to add a tad more as my rears did not lock up (and its a good thing they didnt because I would have lost control) but my prop valve seized up

I felt like I was still in full control during the skid, although I doubt I would be able to turn without coming off the brake....

weird that just the one tire locked up...abs would of saved my tire though lol...

the 1 tire locked because of weight bias. could have turning on the brakes or sometime just the crown of the road will be enough to shift the weight. i have flat spots on all my autocross tires from spinning out or locking up after hard breaking.

so in other words I shouldnt be worried? I was thinking of hitting the 1/4 soon to, but now I am hesitant with this as well...
