  • Got a tire question for you guys.

I ran a search and only came up with one thread from 2009, so I will see if anyone has had/heard anything different.

I recently bought a Camaro from NJ, their inspections aren't as strict as PA inspections, and it basically has 3 different brand of tires on it.

The rear match, the fronts are mis-matched. The fronts honestly look like they will fail the PA inspection, but the rears might have enough life. So obviously if I'm going to have to buy just 2 tires I will put the new ones back there and rotate the current back ones. However if they all fail I'll be getting 4 new ones.

Anyone ever use the Primewell PZ900? Those are the tires on the rear. I figure if they were decent, I could pick up another 2 and run 4 matched tires. But if they weren't that great, and they still pass, I will throw them on the front and get a good set of rears. This Camaro is my daily driver so I'll want to get a decent all season for winter. The winters aren't TOO bad here, plus I have my FWD Monte Carlo to drive on my old rims if I'm not comfortable in the Camaro.

So my real question, are the tires decent enough to get another 2?

If not, what's a good decent all season for the Camaro to put on the rears. Then I will probably use my tax return money next year to get an actual set of good tires for the car.

What difference does it make aslong as they are good tires? Look at some Kuhmos or BFG their good tires if you have to get some.

I know a guy that put some on his car with good results. Primewell are chinese tires, decent enough for dry and wet, but then again I am from a region with NO snow, so I can't speak on their quality there.

Primewells. Lol. I pulled a pair off my parts car and put them on the fronts. They're surprisingly not that bad in dry or wet conditions. But I have yet to find them on sale anywhere though.

Good luck driving in snowy conditions with All Season tires.

I use 4 snow tires from Mid November to Mid April.

I took them off early this year at the beginning of April and got caught by a freak snowstorm.

Let me say I will "never" let that happen again.

Oh I know I will definitely be getting a second set of rims and mounting snows to them in the future. Plus I have the Monte which is good in the snow on days that I need it.

Just after the turbo and paint job the Monte will have to retire as an emergency. Just want a tire that will be decent enough in light snow. I'm not going to go braving any storms. Just was wondering if anyone had any good experience with a specific brand for general driving in the mean time.

Don't know how much you're looking to spend, but I have had a set of the Sumitomo HTR A/S P01s (who the heck came up with that name?) in 245/50/16 on the Camaro for about 25k miles now, and they are probably the best all around tires I've ever had on any car. The only caveat to that is, I won't drive this car in the snow. At all. No way Jose. That's what I have a 4X4 Frontier for. So I don't know how well they'll do there.

At $105 each (Tirerack) they're not the cheapest, but not even close to the most expensive either.

I've got the same tires as Earl, just 250's instead and I drive year round... the only time I don't, is if the snow gets taller than the car. I've been driving RWD cars in snow since I was 14.

                  Thank you everyone :)

My front tires did fail, and I got a set Bridgestone Potenza

I ran continental extreme contacts in winter once. For a performance tire, it was pretty awesome in the winter, granted they were brand new.
