  • safe to use or junk?

just bought SS sway bars from someone on LS1tech, took them outta the package and noticed the front one had a separation on the ends, only way to fully explain is to view pics..just wondering if that's normal or if it's a junk bar.

Please excuse the crappy quality of my phone's pictures but refer to the black seam going thru the metal, it is in fact a slight separation in the metal but at most, if I had to guess, 1mm MAX, might not even be that much but it is visible. Just wondering if I put this on my car it the separation will continue or not.

Scrap - those can't be GM bars.

oh it's a GM bar, I'm sure of that. It has a GM part number tag on it just as my current sway bar has. I'm just a little skeptical about the split end.

Why would you even consider it? It's part of your suspension!

Yeah I know, but I was thinking of just welding it. Then technically it should be stronger than before.

Why is it scrap? Isn't it a hollow bar anyways?

It feels like it's hollow but the ends as shown by the pictures I posted have a slight separation and I was just wondering if the stress of the car would cause them to expand.

My front sway bar did that on both of my Camaros. One was so bad though that the upper half of the "eye" actually broke off. I did weld it and it's been absolutely fine.

I would weld it and hope it holds.

would there be any apparent signs that it went bad after installing it?
