• making suspension not suck.

when i drive over some bumps in the road my whole rear end feels like it is gonna fall apart. It is even worse when i try accelerating on these roads.

I was told awhile ago that this was due to crappy LCAs and I am about to get some new ones. Are the ones from SLPonline a good set to get?

Also I was thinking that i should get some new shocks because I was thinking that they could also be adding to the suspension problem i am having. Is there any good sets you all reccomend aside from the $400 Bilsteins. Like i would spend around $200 at most or just get the take offs.

And... what and where does the Panhard bar do? I am trying to get my cars suspension running well, so what else would you reccommend i do to my ride to make this possible and for around $300-$500 total.

if you plan on sticking NA, then 1LE suspension package will work great. if you plan on putting more hp than 350, then more heavy duty stuff will have to be used.

The panhard bar is a long swingarm which keeps the axle placed under the car left/right. It keeps the LCA's from being pulled on left/right and allows the rear to not oscillate back and forth negating the front alignment

How old is the car? What suspension mods are already done?

I have no suspension mods. I havent even changed the shocks yet. It is a 2000 with 55K on it. It really feels like crap now.

All i really want to do is find out what is wrong with it and fix/upgrade that part. Maybe this can help... When i peel out the rear left tire gets rubber, but the rear right seems to hop and make an awful clunking noise and feels like it is gonna break or something.

You need LCAs, you're getting wheel hop, its common, I had it before I got mine. I'm guessing you don't have an LSD of any sort.. so when you peel out, it feels like one tire is spinning but its not moving at all cause you have an open rear end.. the other one is hopping.

I do have positraction. Both wheels should spin.

Sorry, my mistake Yet positraction doesn't mean a 50/50 distribution of torque to both wheels. This is why one hops (getting most the torque) and the other spins decently. This is how I understand it anyways, you probably know more about it than me, I'm still trying to teach myself all about how cars work by reading everything I can find. I believe Dominic has a good writeup on how the differentials work on his website, if he doesn't mind me saying so.

Either way I would say go for some LCAs, they work wonders for wheel hop.

lca's will get rid of the wheel hop. another reason why 1 wheel hops and the other spins is because of axle torque. the axle spins, making 1 tire plant more and the other lift off the ground more. I had this same problem. I fixed this with a set of 1LE swaybars. I got both front and rear so that the car would stay balanced. it's about 200 bucks for the set. I love them. I got better traction and cornered better at the same time.

Now that i'm puting out even mroe power, I'm getting BMR lca's for the wheel hop I have in corners and drag racing, as well as a BMR phr for cornering and BMR sfc's to stiffen up the chassis which will help both traction and cornering.

The specific parts you get should depend on how far ur gonna go w/ ur car, what ur gonna do w/ it(auto x, road race, drag race, street race, ect.) and how much power ur gonna make. like I said, the 1LE package is great for cars making up to 350 rwhp. If u plan on puting down more than that, then u'll wanna research for the parts u'll wanna get.

There is no way i am gonna get my car up to 350 horsepower, i dont have that much money. So I think I've decided on Reinforced LCAs, 32mm Front, and 21 rear sway bars (are the 21s really that unsafe?) , a panhard bar, TA take off shocks, and eibach lowering springs. This sound like it is a good set-up for a novice like me to do?

I've had the 32/21 combo, and it's been safe for me. I wanna get bigger rear tires tho cuz I can get so much traction out of it. Getting the 1LE componenets will be cheap and get u the stiffness ur looking for. I'd say go w/ the 1LE swaybars and lca's first, along with a shock tower brace and subframe connectors to stiffen up the chassis. if the chassis is stiff, u gain better handling w/o losing ride quality.

If you don't know exactly what sway bars do, it's not the best idea to mess with them. Oversimplified, the front bar reduces roll and the back bar tunes the handling. Bars need to be matched to springs. Bigger is not necessarily better, especially at the rear. The advice you get on the Net may or may not be any good.

The best thing a novice can do is call Sam Strano for advice. I'd fix the fundamental problem you're having before doing a lot of mods. How long have you had this problem? Sounds like something is loose or worn out, maybe a bushing, maybe the shocks. Any good pro mechanic should be able to find it for you.
