  • 8 Brake Codes Scanned

My ABS INOP light came back on my Camaro today and I decided to pull over to the nearest GM dealership I could find.

Pontiac was able to provide me a quick free scan and this is what they came up with on their beefy digital scanner handheld:
    C1211
    C1213
    C1214
    C1216
    C1226
    C1276
    C1278
    C1286

Afterwards they erased the SES light, unplugged the scan tool, started the ignition and informed me it might be a pricey ABS electronic module since the light was still steady but may as well drop off the car for a $45 diagnostic test on the module. It was 4:55 pm before closing at the dealership ( customer service was top notch ).

I came home to do a search and found it could be just a front wheel sensor & bundle near a foil causing static by spark plug #6 but since its raining buckets out here I will pull the wheels later this weekend & check it out for myself.

Until this weekend, what do the codes mean? Is there a descriptive definition to each?

http://www.obdii.com/codes.asp this site will let you look them up, but you'll get alot of duplicate entries because the codes refer to different parts on different models. the best way to check these out is to go to Autozone/murrays/etc. and look them up in one of the service manuals that they carry. Or you could buy one for like 20 bucks, and they're worth their weight in gold when workin on ur ride

that said, i've had my light come on a bunch of times when the abs gets alot of use (i.e. when its snowin'/rainin') and keep in mind that OBDII doesnt tell you 'what is wrong' but rather that there is a descrepancy in the sensor circuit, so you could very well have shorted out if its raining buckets like you said. let it dry out and if its givin ya problems still, then worry about it

Thanks Dom for the tips there. Yes it has been raining a lot here for the past 8 days and tomorrow will be the heaviest with shower activity all day and night so I will consider this as a freak of nature but surely will check out AutoZone as well.

This morning the ABS INOP light was completely off until driving 45 miles to my destination. There was no way to avoid huge ponds of water here caused by poor drainage here in CT.
        We're gettin' swamped!

haha, as long as we're talking about huge puddles, be x-tra careful around those if you got that SLP ram air thingy. one kid at a school by me thought he was all badass in his SS doin donuts in the parkinglot and wound up sucking up one of those puddles. wound up needing a motor rebuild. he was being dumb, but i've gotten part of a puddle b4 when i hit about 6 inches of water at like 45mph. i was so scared, i wouldnt turn the damn thing off for like an hour. i just sat on my porch while it ran b4 i was sure it would start up again.
anywho, good luck with that dude
