  • Still have wheelhop during wet weather.

Not too long ago, I had the shocks and struts redone. However, it rained and my car fishtailed. Did use the KYB Gas-A-Just shocks (rear) and struts (front). I am thinking of doing the bushings, but am wondering if reusing the front and rear control arms (both upper and lower) with polygraphite bushings will work. Did read a few years ago that the polygraphite bushings for the front lower control arms should be ditched and to use stock bushings. I also am thinking of going with larger sways off a WS-6 Trans Am/SS Camaro or some from an aftermarket vendor. I also have the weld-in subframe connectors. Any other comments/suggestions/help is DEEPLY appreciated. Thanks

I would advise against solid rear control arm bushings. From my reading they will increase snap rear action that will lead to fishtailing. The rear control arms need to twist when the axle is uneven and the poly bushings increase the torque required to twist the axle. There are aftermarket control arms that have a spherical poly bushing in them that allows twist but still increase straight line rigidity.

What setting do you have the rear shocks set at? If they are too firm it could lead to more touchy handling in limited traction situations like the rain.
96 White M5 Camaro. Manual everything. Magnaflow cat, dynomax dual outlet axle back. Swapped to a disc rear with 3.42s and a torsen differential, kyb gr2 rear shocks, moog rear endlinks.

      MegaHertz,

On the shocks, the KYB Gas-A-Just shocks/struts CANNOT be adjusted on different settings. The KYB AGX shocks can be adjusted, but they were twice as much, so I skipped (due to hard times). So I take it I should reuse the rear control arms and panhard bar, along the torque arm, and the front suspension (lower and upper)? This leads me to another question.
On the front suspension now that I already replaced the front struts, would I need to replace those or can I reuse them? Didn't get them done at the time, but it is looking more it will be done.

I would either get some LCA's and or relocation brackets should work wonders.

          Where?

          SSMS5411,

On the R.C.A.'s, what would you recommend? Where would I get bracket relocation bars?

It's called RWD; the equation is "rain + RWD = fishtail"

Also, there's a long, skinny black rubber thing down in the driver's side floorboard, some call it a gas pedal but the proper term is accelerator; this ingenious device allows you to control the amount of torque delivered to the rear wheels, as well as the overall velocity of the vehicle. Together, those parameters can be adjusted to prevent the aforementioned fishtailing.

UMI and BMR both make relocation brackets - they are very similar in design.

If i were doing LCA's - I think I would want to try either the J&M ones or just put some new moog bushings in my stockers.

                Condition of tires?

Rear LCA - 1LE or Moog solid rubber bushings.
