  • Will shocks help times at the track?

Id imagine softer ones in back would transfer more weight to the rear...however, how horrid would that handle on the roads? thanks in advance.

Well let's look at it the other way around. I got my new struts in last month and my breaking distance was cut WAAAAYY down... when I shift gears, the car stays a bit more solid providing more launch. A good suspension set-up is vital to good track times. A car is only as fast as it's weekest link- if you can't get the power to the ground, whats the point in having a powerful engine?

You want stiffer shocks in back softer struts in front.

Soft struts in front allow the front end to come up more helping transfer weight to the rear.

Stiff shocks in rear allow the weight to push down on the axle instead of being absorbed in the shock.

IMHO.... Contrary to popular belief that you want the car to stay PERFECTLY flat to be the ideal launch... you want the REAR to stay perfectly solid. Ideally the front would come up enough to lift itself OFF of the front suspension without picking it up. There is no loss from this at all.

I have researched the physics (I love physics) and that is what _I_ have concluded.
