How much of a height difference is there when going from a 60 to a 50 series tire? I don't plan on lowering my car in the future, but would rather not have a very noticeable wheel well gap. Also, am I correct in assuming that a tire with a lower height would put more power/torque to the ground thus translating to improved acceleration?

aminor, go to google.com and search for "tire calculator". click on the first result and it will take you to a calculator were you put before and after tire sizes and display diagrams and measurements of the difference. hope you find it. if you keep your same tire width and go down to a 50 series, you will have a lower profile tire. On the other hand if you go wider and also lower the aspect ratio you could end up going taller. This is because the aspect ratio is merely what it says. It's a ratio of the sidewall compared to the width of the tire. a good place to learn the differences in tires and specs is at www.tirerack.com
Overall if you change the size tires you also change your effective gear ratio.

BF Goodrich and Goodyear, and I'd imagine most other tire makers, have specs for all of their tires, including the mounted height.
