Has anyone successfully removed and installed the lower ball joints with the lower control arm installed in the car? The Haynes manual says to take the control arm off and take it in b/c a hydraulic press is needed to install the new one. I have a professional grade ball joint press/removal tool. Is that sufficient, or am I a glutton for punishment? Oops, almost forgot; it's a 1998 camaro convert. with the V6.

Re: lower ball joints
If your press is a decent one, I would say it's worth a shot. I successfully replaced my uppers, but that was just a matter of drilling out rivets. I attempted the lowers with what I had (a pulley puller) and failed miserably. There is certainly access once you have the spindle off, so I would give it a shot. Worst case, you just end up taking the arm off.
