  • Front brakes on the rear

    OK, genius idea ...
I'm going with an LS1 brake setup on my 97, and will therefore have a pair of leftover calipers and rotors, etc. Any chance I can put these on
the rear of the car in place of the stock drums?

How about, what is needed for a rear brake drum - disc swap? Thanks!

(scrapyard if they don't go on the back, unless someone wants 'em. and even if I do do the swap, i'll have spindles)

well, to start off you would have no parking break because the rear disks have a "drum in brake" setup.. after that yes you could do it (provided you could fab up some kind of mounting bracket) but it would take some brake bias adjusting because you can't have equal clamping power on all 4 corners or your rear brakes would want to lock up often.. on slippery surfaces this could be very dangerous!.. kinda goes along with the old saying.. "for enough money I can make it work" but it won't be a safe setup..

Not true for the 93-97 cars. But the real answer is that the 97 fronts are smaller than the 97 rears. I bought the rears for $225 salvage, calipers, rotors, mounting hardware, etc.

so do the 93-97 parking break use one of those "mini" parking break calipers for the parking break?

and the front rotors are smaller than the rears?? wow.. ok.. wierd..
