Front Shocks!

I need some front shocks for my DD. This isn't my race car so I'm looking for at least stock performance at a good price.

Just trying to get these replaced before it starts snowing cause it's already bad enough on dry pavement. I'm going to have to replace the rears too because the cheapy autozones didn't last 5 months so if anyone knows a whole package deal, that would work too. I'm not good at looking for stock replacement parts.. If I was trying to upgrade I wouldn't need help.. lol.

Least KYB's or do Blisteins and be done for a few years.

Yeah I like my Qa1's but their not easy on the pocket though.

Yeah, not going with Qa1. Like I said, it's for my DD and I might not hang onto this car for too much longer so I'm not looking to upgrade this thing. I just want to feel safer on the highway and not break the bank.

just go with some monroe shocks. there good and proven on countless applications for stock daily driving.

I thought it was mutually agreed upon by everyone that monroe and shocks were never to be used in the same sentence on this forum...ever

Blizz, figure out what you want to do man. If you're not going to keep the car much longer, save your money. If your shocks haven't caused you a problem yet, another month or so isn't going to make a difference, just be aware of your situation.

If you are going to keep the car, get a set of used qa1's and don't look back. I can't describe how different they make the car feel. I'd take them over by adjustable KYB's any day any time.

I'm not sure what to tell you there.

I replaced the shocks on my Camaro with KYB AGX's for the adjustability and whatnot, but the only difference I noticed really was my ability to adjust under/oversteer in swerves. As best I could tell, my car, at 120k, had the stock DeCarbons and the process was quite a pain for truly being able to tell no difference at all. The car rode crappy before the shocks, and still rode crappy afterwards. *shrug*

I did shocks on my Buick as well and used Monroe Sensa Tracs. Quite a different application, but I liked the Monroes on that car, and I could actually tell the difference.

if he just wants a stock replacement and isnt racing or anything monroes are just fine

Monroe's are crap and don't even compare to stock shocks. If you want the car to feel like a poorly timed pogo stick, then Monroe shocks are fine.

Stock replacement shocks that won't break the bank... I would say KYB GR2s. Hell, even Tokicos would be better than Monroes.

didn't know monroe was considered a four letter word around here. they worked pretty well for my s10 which constantly gets abused on scouting trips.
and for dding your just wanting a comfy ride not all out performance like what i went with my koni yellows. plus if he is just want to replace the front although the monroe are crappy they would best match the rear shocks as well. anything more he would have to go with all four shock to keep the car safe.

I went with a new set of KYB gr-2's. 214 to my door for all 4. I'm gonna probably keep this car a little longer, another year or 2. I'm gonna make it all pretty again. Ohio has not been nice to it and buying shocks for it made me want to give it more attention. However, if it turns into a money pit, it's gone.

I would not get Monroes....mechanic friend stopped using them at his shop due to poor quality. I went with SLP Bilstein's, they were not easy on the pocket, but they were an amazing upgrade, and they will last twice as long as a cheap shock.

I used cheap KYB's on my Third gen and liked those, a little stiff, but good for a cheap replacement.

Don't get gabriels... ****ing pissing me off.


I got them for my DD 2k Camaro, don't get me wrong, with some z28 sway bars and poly bushings, and gabriel shocks car was ALOT better then the factory setup with 100k miles on it.

But my problem is I somehow stripped a nut out on my front right shock, causing it to pull out.

I cleaned up the threads with a die, then put a stainless steel nut on it, and then doubled up on it to increase the surface area...

4 months later....

My car is sitting in the garage right now as I type this after hitting a bump.


Its not supposed to look like that. Either way I am going to take it out bring it to autozone, see their response, if they don't give me a free one, I will drop it on their counter and inform them I will never shop at Autozone again(they have alwaysed sucked) and I have good local alternatives.
