  • and coil over route or go with stock?/ and more

    hey guys :wavey:
so i have been in the middle , coil overs or stock.

i want this too be a street / track set up. i will be doing some auto cross but just for fun , the strip is more were i will be at. and also right now my bird is my daily driver and i want to do research and get opinions/help before i buy and put the parts on. :work:

so far i have seen positive responses with a 32 mil front sway bar and 21 mil rear sway bar. i am also going to upgrade my lower control arms and ball joins and rotors since i need new ones .along with a strut brace . panhard bar, as for tires i am still looking into that and going to keep the stock rims
here are the part i have decided with

    sway bars:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hss-2204

    lower control arms;http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmr-aa002r

    strut brace: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmr-mstb002r

    panhard bar:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/upi-2038cm-r

    any suggestions will help also

i have been researching about coil overs on here but there's not much info about it and just lowering my car i would not like for the reason that my car all ready scrapes when going over speed bums and is not adjustable.as for coil overs maybe people don't use then on our bird. the reason i have been looking into them is that the adjust ability you can do in an instant at the track and also for a looks,u can lower when you just want too park and show your car. :naughty:

so far i have narrowed it to these :
    http://www.summitracing.com/search/p...d=coil%20overs

my question are : what are number of valving selections mean?, lower mount tie bar or bering? single or duble adjustable?

as for the spring that you have to buy seperately i have these narrrowed down http://www.summitracing.com/search/p...over%20springs

my questions on these are , whats spring rate mean? and which is best if i do go with coil overs?

and as for the rear axle how would this work on the rear?, cause the rear has the spring and shock separated.

if i do go with stock this is what i have picked out

    shocks:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bsn-24-024068http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bsn-24-024075

    springs:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mog-60114

    any info can help, thanks

Air suspension? Some of the muscle car guys are using them and they ride smooth

Stranos and QA1 adjustable shocks then... you can change stiffness and ride height on the fly.

Strut tower brace is eyecandy pretty much. It's not as important as subframe connectors. Make sure you get an adjustable panhard bar, rod ends will be noisy and not quite as durable for a daily driver compared to using one with MOOG bushings.

Those tubular lower control arms have some "durability" issues for street use as well. They might have fixed it, but some guys have bent the shock pedestal there on regular driving conditions... Stock ones do just fine. UMI has released some that are a little more durable whilst still offering some adjustability with these:
                  http://www.umiperformance.com/catalo...roducts_id=620

If you're really bent on getting rear coilovers, here's one of your only options:
                  http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/pr...j.-Shocks.html

You'll have to do some fab work for those rear plates and also order the front spring set, so you've spent almost $2K on springs/shocks only and they're just gas charged shocks from what I recall. The springs are linear, not progressive. I had QA1's on my car before and it would porpoise on some roads, very unsettling.

Other than that you'll probably have to spend even more on KW racing coilovers.

It's better to get a suspension setup that is tuned to work together instead of mix and match stuff. Sam Strano's stuff is good quality, and my car's only weakness right now is probably tires. I have his Koni's, Swaybars and his Springs. It isn't really all too low. I have longtubes and don't have any issues for clearance. My roads are almost guaranteed to be worse than yours in the DFW area.

My car with the Strano HP7 package:

                  Underside:

And finally, Sam Strano caning his Camaro:

That video is damn impressive... but ask anyone who has it. Strano/Koni or Bilstein setup will ride better than factory and handle corners like that. Agreed with SFCs, and adj. panhard...

if you just want height adjustment for the rear springs, you can go with something like this...far less work to put in...

Qa-1's are a great choice for ride height.

ok so if i do go with adjustable . the qa-1 are the way to go but what about the springs for em such as the spring rate and LETZRIDE- those look kind dangerous when ever you take the load off the spring. it looks like it will raddled and move maybe get out of place as far as the spring goes.

how would it get rattled loose and move? You weld them in place?

im talking about the spring not the parts you weld.
