  • Big trouble - Rims frozen

Well a few months ago when I put in the new rearend on my car the rims didn't fit perfectly. I had to sort of torque down the nuts to pull the rim in.
I didn't realize completely how stupid this was until today when I tried to pull off the back tires to replace my shocks and springs.
Now I can not pull off the back tires and I am not sure how the hell I will get them off again.
If anyone else has had this problem or has a possible solution it would help a lot. Otherwise I will have to drag the car to a shop and pay for work... I hate doing that.

did your wheels ever wobble when they were rednecked down?

i tend to think there might just be a little corrosion on there, nothing that a well-placed pickle fork couldn't bust loose...

Actually, its weird, I got my new rear end, and my stock rims were fine, then when I got my ZR1's, the rears did not want to go on, so first I had an impact, and I forced them on there, but they wobbled so I had to grind down the rear end. But to get them off again... just get underneath the car and kick the back side of the rim REAL hard. Seriously, it works. Good luck. ;)

No the tires never wobbled at all. They were definately on their tight. No movement. I thought about getting underneath and kicking away but I didnt trust the jack stands. My driveway sucks and not completely flat so things can be iffy :D . I was able to change the rear springs and shocks without taking the tires off. Very easy actually. Only problem now is that when I went to put the nuts back on the tire that I had tried to take off, two of the bolts are stripped  . So now on to the next problem...

cars older than 97s required modification to the wheel (grinding, like you said) to fit.

nathan, what year car did that rear come out of?

It came off of a 95. Yeah, I needed the car to be up and running that is why I had forced them on before. I did plan on shaving them down later, and now that later has come it is a PITA.

put one lug on very loosely, take a hammer and hit the back of the tire...going underneath and kicking it is dangerous like you said...it happens all the time...and studs are nothing to replace once you get that tire off, hammer it out, slip the new one in and tighten it in there with an impact gun

Thanks Nikon, I think that I will do that tomorrow morning. I hope to get everything ready to run for this weekend... (of course things might be ruined by the "R" word)

Yup yup - its nicknamed the exploding hub because our hubs aren't very consistent. Some people have absolutely no problem with wheels and others have a big pain in the *** time putting wheels on the rear. I had to grind 1mm out of the center hole of my C5s to get them to fit on the rearend of my car. You're going to have to do the same it sounds like. It was mostly on 1993-1996 cars and drum brake rear-ends.
