My suspension is horrible! Would it be cheaper to get shocks and springs off a v6 2001+ or buy aftermarket?
My car bounces like hell and it sux! Its also on stock suspension.

well the suggestion of buying takoffs works if 1) you have a high milage car and your socks are giving out and 2) if the takeoffs are reasonably new.

just don't expect much of an improvement if your shocks don't have many miles on them. i think the v6s just have amazingly mushy shocks stock. if what you're looking for is better body motion control, you might want to get a set of aftermarket shocks from bilstein, KYB, koni, etc. but expect to pay much more than $50 for a good set and its not exactly cake to install them if you'll be doing this yourself. make sure you have/get a proper spring compression tool for the fronts. if it looks at all flimsy at the store, you don't want it. those springs can store a lot of energy. one wrong move and that spring can fly right in your face. then its lights out.

if you're not completely discouraged yet, good luck. :D

Oh i can do it myself, Ive done suspension swaps/work before in the past, and ya the spring compressors they carry at the stores arent exactly the greasted or greats quality either.

ok well when i bought my car last september it had 7500 miles on it! Barely nuffin! for a 98! An old lady had it and never drove it so it constantly sat on its suspension plus it has 98s technology and i know later models like my moms 2002 has better technology in her suspension. My car now just hit the 22k milage marker so would those v8 take offs be quite noticeable in stiffness ride?

            Thanks

yeah mine is mushy as hell too.. I don't necessarily agree with the train of thought that you should use shock absorbers to stiffen the ride.. that's what springs are for.. shock absorbers CAN stiffen a ride.. (or make it softer for that matter) but in reality shocks are meant to control rebound.. not spring rate..

if I keep my car I plan to go with some v8 springs to give me more spring rate, bilstein shocks and some 1LE sways.. these are all ideas I might work on and look into more..

I like the idea of regular v8 springs cause I can get a set of takeoffs from slp for $50.. plus I think someone has heated or otherwise distorted my stock springs..

I assumed with a 98 you had at least 50K on it... Sitting doesnt harm the shocks at all. If they're mushy to you, you need to just upgrade to something better. Bilstein HDs are nice, but not necessarily stiffer in all areas, however they will outlast the car and can be revalved to any spring you want to run. The Koni SAs are also nice, they can be adjusted to suit any spring or terrain... and since you like it stiff you might like the adjustability. Both of these of course do cost a good deal of money.

My 1998 just turned 52k on the clock. Shocks are not nearly as nice as when I bought it. I guess I was hard on them. It is definatly time for new. Im still considering the Tokico's but I havent heard anything about them yet. STill looking into it.
