ok, I'm gonna go psycho w/ tire width and stuff, so bear w/ me. I'm thinkin, is it possible to put on torque thrust II 17x9.5 rims in front and have 285-40-17 tires on them w/o having them rub the inner fenders when turning? also, could I fit 335-35-17 tires on the same type rims, but in a 17x11 size? would I have to flare the fenders in front or rear for that combo, or would I be ok? I'm not worrying about lowering the car just yet, so I probly won't need the adj. phr yet. yes, it's very extreme and not needed if all I'm looking for is traction, but the main thing is when people look at the car from the rear that they see the fat rubber on the ground. plus, if u look at indy cars, they look tight w/ smaller width tires in front.

I'm wanting a similar set up. But, I have concerns about how much weight that would be adding. Plus I have found out the following:

    1. With 17x11 in the rear and a 50mm offset and 315/35/17's there may be some slight rubbing on the inside of the wheel well. It seems some people don't have this problem and other say you have to get out the rubber hammer. (Not sure if I want to beat on my car any) LOL!

    2. I agree that a smaller tire up front looks better. Plus you don't need 11+ inches of width on the front at all. I thought of using like a 245/45/17 on the front wich would be around 9.6 inches or so wide. Not bad!

I'm not sure if I want to try and cram the 315's on the rear. (They loook sweet though!) Or if I should stick with a 275 on the rear. I think on the front I might just use the 245 width. But not sure yet.

I do have pics of a 315 and a 275 side by side. I would paste it in here like I've seen some folks do but I'm not sure how to do that.

As for the 335/35/17 that would kick @ss but I don't think it would fit without wheel tubs. :( If someone has found out otherwise please post it.

I think 315's are the biggest you can go with out tubbing. I have 275/40ZR17's on 17x9 SS 10 spokes Chrom rims onmy '99 CAMARO all around looks good. The left front rubed a little but did not cause a problem it just bearly tuched. Also in the corners behind the tire(like where mud flaps would go) fadded a bit cause the wider tires stuck out more and kicks up gravle. Just some thing to think about. Good luck. Camaro's kick A$$

I wonder if using a offset like 36mm on the original ZR1's would make it have more room on the inside of the wheel well?

I know it makes the wheel go out twoards the outside more and lots of people don't like the .25 inch it sticks out, but I wonder if that would make more room with no rubbing?

        Anyone know?

Putting wider tires up front generally decreases the stopping distance a good bit. The narrower front tires induce understeer (front slips before rear) as well.

I hear 285s fit up front fine btw.

I know about the understeer dom, but I also have the 1LE swaybars front and rear, and everybody says that on a otherwise stock V6 suspension, they'll induce oversteer w/ stock tires. maybe the wider rears would help prevent all this. also, if I'm gonna end up spending 2000+ on rims, I wouldn't mind having a good bodyshop flare my fenders a bit or tub the rear fenderwells a bit. how much do u guys think either of these 2 options would cost?

Would a real ZR1 offset of 36mm work to fit a335? I know a 36mm will stick out slightly but it will also move away from the inner wheel well. Will that work?

Aren't the front fenders polyurethane? Can you flare those?
Not a problem, just a challenge...

personally, I thought the whole car was plastic of fiberglass except the hood(which is steel). if u have the cash, u can do anything. I'm just tryin 2 figure out how much it would cost to get the rear fenderwells tubber or the rear fenders flared.

Nope, the hood is an aluminum alloy. The nose and front end are the plastic your talking about. The doors are fiberglass skins, and the rear pillar, rear fender are metal.

I would guess tubbing wouldn't be too bad. It does require fabricating and body work wich you would have to get an estimate from a body shop. Labor rates can be slightly different. I wouldn't think it would be overly expensive. Meaning like 10k dollars or anything.

                    What about my previous idea:

"Would a real ZR1 offset of 36mm work to fit a335? I know a 36mm will stick out slightly but it will also move away from the inner wheel well. Will that work?"

I'd wanna flare the rear fenders so that the cops don't pitch a ***** and so it looks better. how much do u guys think that would cost?

Not cheap. Just get some '02 SS takeoff rims from SLP, some 275/45(?)/17 tires and be happy.

If someone can tell me how to cut and past pics in here I can past a pic of a car with a 36mm offset. The small .25 inch that it sticks out is barely noticable. Would definatly be cheaper than going with all the body work of tubbing it out. Not sure if a 335 would still rub on the inside with a 36mm offset. Does anyone know?

Hmmm.. tires? They get confusing huh? I have never had any problems with tire rubbing. I have 1999 C5 Vette rims on mine. front 8.5/17
rear 9.5/18 They are rapped in good year eagle r1
front 245/40/17 rear 285/35/18 I like to run my tires just alittle wider than my rims cause in the case of a curb in the middle of the road its cheaper to buy a new tire than a new rim. But either way the cheapest way to go on this is AFS. They make a Z06 and C5 copycat rim with the offset needed for camaros and firebirds. The best place I have found to buy them is on www.ebay.com for rims and www.tirerack.com for tires. Good luck with it. ;)

no thanks cartman, i prefer 2 be somewhat unique, plus i love how really fat tires in the rear look. jam, if u can e-mail me the pic, that would be cool. s.veriges@verizon.net yes, u have 2 add the . between s and veriges. also, dominic, when i figured out the tread width of the 335's, they're about 2 inches wider than the 17x11 rim. when I looked at 275 width tires on 9 inch rims and 285 width tires on 9.5 inch rims, they were about 2 inches widre than the rim also, so I'm confused about how the 335's wouldn't be able 2 fit on an 11 inch rim. I was lookin at 18x10.5 vette rims b4, but I figured I'd lose a ton of ride quality w/ 295-35-18 tires cuz of the loss of sidewall.
